First ever duck

Postby Capttrae » Thu Nov 27, 2014 9:25 am

Went this morning on opening day here in Kentucky, I went down to the creek right before daylight found a pretty good straight stretch, threw out my 2 decoys that I packed in there w/ me, sat down by a tree and started waiting. Bout daylight I heard the wood ducks start to whistling as they were coming thru. So I got out my wood duck whistle saw one fly over and started the whistling, I actually got to see him turn around circle then just plunk down amongst my decoys.
Now I'm not sure how sporting the next step was but I really didn't care, I picked my gun up and just shot the crap out of him. All in all I thought it was a great morning

Awesome job. And who ever said whats the right way to shoot ducks and geese. I land everyone I can before we shoot them. I want to eat them not just kill them. Nothing worse then a duck breast full of bbs.

You did your job by getting him there in the first place, at least that's how I look at it

Badass man. Jealous you got a woodie to decoy for you. Congrats and there's no shame in water swatting. We all do it whether we'll admit it or not.

I admit it.

That's the point in calling, get them as close as possible and when he stops swimming, you have accomplished your goal. Good job! Birds a little thin on the west side. Almost limits but not quite. All mallards wich is rare for this early.
