I need a new prop!

Duck boats and duck boat blinds!

I need a new prop!

Postby Duckdog » Sun Jul 20, 2014 1:47 pm

My prop is toast!!
Actually,...it's beyond toast.
So,...It's a 27hp Mud Buddy long tail. I've replaced it before, and just went through Mud Buddy to do so, but they're awful pricey...
Can anyone recommend a different, more cost effective prop company?

Thanks,
Kevin

Is that an 11" prop on the 27? I used to have one of those motors, I'll go check and see if I've still got the spare in the garage.

Sorry never mind, i must've given it to the guy i sold the motor too. The only prop i could find in the garage is my worn 12.25" x 10 that i keep for a backup.

Thanks for looking...

I think I've always ran a 9x7. I'm pretty sure that's what it came with, and what I bought as the last replacement.

Thats right, couldn't remember. I think i had two different pitched props, a 7 and an 8 (or maybe it was a 6), trying to adjust for our altitude.

Which I don't understand at all...
How does altitude play into pitch?

Its not the prop exactly, its the thinner oxygen so the motor makes a little less hp. Change pitch = change gearing = go faster.

Take a boat thats pitched for high altitude down to sea level and it will jump on plane quicker but will max out at a lower speed and run high rpms.

Ok,...That makes sense. I just saw on the Mud Buddy site where they briefly mention "...above 2500' order one size smaller pitch".
Made me curious...

My dad buys his props from Solas, and I can't remember if they fix your props for free, or just for really cheap.

Thanks,
I went ahead and just forked over the $220 for the Mud Buddy prop... It hurt.
It showed up yesterday, but I haven't put it on yet.
