Degreased the transom where the old 2 stroke shat back there. Cleaned up the inside and then took the wheel and roughed up the gel coat on the inside of the transom so I can get a better bond with my tabbing.
Bout to head to town for some tack cloth and acetone. Also gona grab some mixing cups that won't melt and some brushes and rollers. Hoping to at least have the floor sealed on the back, glued down and tabbed in by weekends end....
If I get the entire floor project done I probably deserve a medal.

Some 90s ass traction rubber. It's where a trolling motor was mounted at one time. The whole nose/front deck whatever you'd call that area of the boat is going to be covered with the diamond plate best step mat just like the interior.

To add to that... The reason being is that's the only place to enter and exit the boat and I'd really hate for myself or someone to step off the dock onto slick or icy fiberglass and slip into the lake. That would certainly end the hunting for that day.

Gotcha, in the pic it looks like it is an open area in the boat with a grate over it.

Haha
If you want any tips on how to look good I'm not your guy.
That boat would be a sweet setup for where I hunt.
Is the bottom flat in the back or does it keep the vee all the way back?

It's a slight v all the way. Actually has what you might call a keel almost all the way back, plus two short ones just like it on either side on bottom but aren't as long, then has a stepped chine. Handles like a dream and planes super nice. Plus I imagine that deep v bow and the nose will be nice when I get into some shitty weather later on in the season. No worries about taking a wave over the bow. Which isn't a lot. We only got into hairy situations twice last year and once was in ollys boat. Ok three times if you count the fog and stumps at Seminole which was also his boat. However the worst being in my old boat. Scared the hell out of me. It was pretty cold and we hit some good sized waves....the spray coming off the bow of the boat was freezing instantly and my eyes were both frozen shut at one point. I didn't know wether to drive kind and try to blink them open or not bc I didn't want to drop the tiller handle and get turned sideways.
Damn I just rambled.

Haha. Yeah, I like the way that bow is. I have to be carful with my boat because anything over 2' waves would turn bad quick. And with the flat bottom any chop I have to slow down or take a pounding. And it doesn't take much wind too kick up 1-2 footers. Usually the worst weather are the best days and I'm limited to the places I can hunt. Some day id like to get a bigger Jon with a good MV front. Something 20'+ long and 72" bottom with deep sides.

Well. Tabbing is a real bitch. The 1708 was much easier to work than the CSM. Was a bitch getting the air out and this is no prefect fit on the floor either so working the corners and all was a bit tricky. I'm using up more resin than I would like to. I'm not sure if the guy at us composites quoted me wrong or if it's bc my inexperience makes me inefficient. Got a gallon plus a quart left and still not half way finished tabbing. So really considering ordering another half gallon tomorrow. Here are a few pics of my progress.

Once this is dry I'll move the rear bench seat back. Glue in the front half of the floor and finish tabbing.

Good deal. Just don't put direct heat on it. At least with epoxy, if we pour the heat on it to quick cure it doesn't bond to well and cracks easy.

Sucks right now bc the smell is seeping from the garage into the kitchen. There's nothing else i can do but leave it there. Only a matter of time til my wife goes in there and smells it then the bitching starts....

Bad news guys. Some of the glass pulled away. Didn't bond right. Some of the resin is still tacky too. I'm gona keep the heater going til I get back from work bc I think it had a bit to do with the cold last night. If it's not dry I'm just gonna pull it out in the sun and see if i can glaze it over with a hot batch to get it to cure But I may be pulling some of this off and starting over. Sucks.

Got it to dry up a lot better in the last few hrs. Hot batch is in place. Waiting to see how that turns out before I start ripping shit apart.
