Scull boat rebuild

Postby ducks~n~bucks » Sun Oct 19, 2014 9:02 pm

Well, my dad's scull boat which was built like 6 years ago is too high profile, and has not been used to actually scull since the year he built it and realized it sat too high on the water. The plans he bought said to make a 6 inch vertical side between the bottom and top (obviously) and that is what makes it too tall. Today he said he didn't have enough time to rebuild it, so he was going to burn it. I asked if I could try to rebuild it since if I messed up he could still burn it, he said sure. Now I am going too cut the 6 inches of plywood off with a circular saw, exposing the supports for the top. Then I am going to cut the supports with a sawzall, screw the top back onto the bottom, and re-fiberglass it at the seam that is left. Then paint it battleship grey or something like that.

Real question is how is he going to lure your mom out of the house long enough to use all those power tools?

Once I brought home an A+ in woodshop she let me start using power tools, I still am not allowed to use a chainsaw though.

I've got a working camera, but no way to upload pics until I find the usb port. I will only be working on this on the weekends anyway, because football practice goes until dark.

Well I have delayed this project until football season is over, so I can spend proper time on it.

Too bad we don't have a scull boat expert here anymore to help you. Looks like you're the man now DNB.

Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

I really would like to have one of those. I think it would be killer on a calm sunny day out on the bay.

That's exactly what they're for. You wake up late, eat breakfast, get out about noon, limit out, and go home well before dark.
