What: duck hunting

When: Saturday morning, 11-19-22 (LA east zone opener)

Who: Clay, Mark, Gabe and myself

Where: Amite River swamp near Ascension/Livingston border

Weather: 46 degrees, cloudy skies with 2 mph north wind

Weapons: 12 gauge Browning A5, modified choke with #2 steel
12 gauge Hatfield SA, I/C choke with #4 steel
12 gauge Benelli Nova, I/C choke with #2 steel
12 gauge Browning Silver, light mod with #4 steel

What happened: We can’t shoot! 4 hunters and 3 wood ducks. Seen about 2 dozen woodies and 5 teal. At least it was cool enough to not have to wear mosquito repellent this morning. It felt great to pull the trigger, even if nothing was falling. Lol.

Don't believe that for a moment. Just couldn't hit.

Shooting is a good thing, better than not...
Just had to knock the rust off you're good to go now....

I agree with both of you. Rusty and can’t hit.

What: duck hunting

When: Thanksgiving morning, 11-24-22

Where: Amite River swamp near Ascension/Livingston border

Who: just me

Weather: 57 degrees, partly cloudy with a 6 mph east wind

Weapons: Browning Silver, light modified choke with #4 steel.

What happened: dire straights this morning, only seen 13 ducks and only 2 were in range and I got the hoodie (lucky me). Seemed like a late January hunt in the swamp due to little activity. Did see massive flocks of robins flying high overhead, hadn’t seen that in several years. Maybe some brutal cold is in our near future?

Sure does look like a good place to hunt...
You mentioned Robins, years ago I would come home from work and I would have hundreds of robins in my yard, the neighbors yard and surrounding areas.... I haven't had a hundred robins in my yard in years...

Same thing in SELA, 30/40 years ago they had robins in every tallow tree and mowed lawn all winter long, not anymore.

Quit aiming.
Just focus on the bird. Focus on its head and when you can see eyeballs they're close enough to shoot.
Point gun...bang.
QUIT AIMING!
Really it's like spraying your little brother with a garden hose as he runs around.

I made an executive decision earlier this morning, I’ll wait and chase ducks Sunday morning. Good luck to all out there today.

I dunno there were Robin's st big lake and a zillion blackbirds. I hate them. You hear their wings and ...it's just damned blackbirds.
I'd bet there are Robin's here it hasn't been super cold but one night. Last Saturday night it was 12f.
Bounced back to fall weather again.
Winter for a day.
My spies up north say it ain't happening there either
Waiting on a text from yankeegray. He has access to private land in Southern IllinoiZ. It'll be fun to visit.

I kind of doubt you saw the same 20 ducks I saw the day before.

Didn’t go this final weekend of first split.
First split totals for my blind:
(2) drake woodies
(1) hen woodie
(1) drake hoodie
Guess deer hunting is on the agenda next weekend.

I've had seasons where I killed zero ducks. Others where I got dozens.
Savor them woodies.
Hope you catch a big deer. 8-)

What: Louisiana duck hunting

When: Saturday morning, 12-31-22

Where: Amite River swamp near Ascension/Livingston border

Weather: 59 degrees with fog

Who: Seth and his dog, Bella.
Gabe, Mark and myself

Weapons: Retay SA, choke ? Ammo?
Hatfield SA, full choke with #2 steel
Benelli Nova, I/C choke with #2 steel
Browning Silver, light modified with # 4 steel

What happened: Not much, only seen about 10 ducks in the stratosphere. We even had a retriever today just no dead birds. The fog rolled in after 7 and hindered our vision. Bailed out at 8am.

What: Louisiana duck hunting

When: Sunday morning, 1-29-23 (final day of season)

Where: Amite River swamp near Ascension/Livingston border

Weather: 58 degrees, heavy rain with 6 mph SE wind

Who: just me

Weapon: 12 gauge Browning Silver, light modified choke with #4 steel

What happened: got my ass soaking wet with the rain that was supposed to come through later today, SURPRISE! I noticed 4 ducks flying by but figured it was the last ones on this planet so I didn’t shoot. Glad it’s over, maybe I’ll chase bass now or whatever bites. Hoping next season treats us better but from what I seen, the future of duck hunting is grim.

Hunting partner just sent this pic from youth hunt this morning. Said they had some close encounters and if that damn Hatfield wouldn’t jammed, his son could’ve limited out on woodies. I guess there’s life in that swamp after all.

Yeah, he’s been on here or the fuge before. His dad told me that was his best waterfowl hunt so far. Good times.
