First call I ever made

I pretty much made it for fun while I was in machinist school. It's mainly for looks but it does function and sounds pretty good

Pretty sure that thing would get you pulled over if a statie happened to be driving by while you were practicing in your truck! Seriously, though, it looks good. Woods has an aluminum call he made, and I've always wondered how they sound. Post up a video or sound file if you can.

Yeah it does kinda resemble drug paraphernalia. I will admit we did make a few of those also. For looks of course 8-)

How exactly does a silencer work? It's a series of chambers correct?

Baffles, usually with something like steal wool in between to help trap the gases. Same principle as a muffler on the truck, pretty much.

Yeah, I know! When I was living in AZ I eyeballed them at the gun shops pretty hard, but they were around $300, and I couldn't spending that much for a threaded piece of metal and fluff.

That's it? The guy who makes them in town here gets $800 for SS, and about 2 G's for his titanium cans.

Pretty sure they are a little more complicated than a metal can with some "fluff". They have baffle chambers inside them that directs the hot gases in a certain way to dilute it out. They can get pretty complicated from what I understand.

But I still like an empty plastic bottle filled with steel wool over the end of my .22 :fishing:

Yeah, but it's certainly nowhere near as complex as the mechanical marvel it's attached to, which in my case was an XD40 for $350. Only $50 more engineering in the gun? I think they think a little too highly of their metal tube with fluff.

I'm betting it was for a .22. You can't touch big calibers for less than 800 or so.

Yeah ya do. How else can you shoot your guns at family functions without disturbing the older family members.

When I was in the Army, some of the high-speed guys in a unit I was attached to had suppressors on some H&K MP5s they let me shoot. I was amazed at how loud it still was, and that without the "BANG" to cover it up, an automatic weapon sounds remarkably like a can of nuts and bolts, which may fall apart at any time. I guess it would be better on a pistol.

You can hear the slide work but it's more of a ticking sound. They aren't silencers, but rather suppressors. It's quiet enough to shoot without earplugs, but you aren't gonna be popping people in the next room without waking someone up like they do in the movies.
