Well over the last 2 days almost all the birds have left, and things are icing up in double time. Enjoy them birds boys. We don't have them in mn any more (with the exception of the birds that will be here all winter now)

I'm jealous just seeing that. Elk is my #1 big game I want to take.

Is this all public land that you're hunting?

Didn't find a muley I wanted to shoot so I shot a whitetail instead.

OMG, I actually shot a duck at my duck club this morning. First of the season at the club

I definitely picked the right year to go on my first guided duck hunt. It saved the entire season. Three more weeks of duck hunting and mallard numbers are definitely trending up so I remain the eternal optimist.

I tried to go over thanksgiving break and we got 9 inches of rain in 4 days. The mornings it wasn't raining there was no way I was going to try and get off the road. Couldn't go deer hunting as I have to cross a creek to get to my stand. Fucking rain has been a total bitch this year. Last I looked we were less than an inch from hitting 6 foot of rain this year, normally only get bout 34 inches.

On the bright side a guy at church stopped me and said his ponds are covered in mallards and that I have free reign over them. Hopefully Christmas will have great yields.

Try to remember to follow through with your swing as you pull the trigger, and remember, it will be a "shot string", not a straight shot pattern like you see when shooting still targets. For better odds, increase your lead. If you have the opportunity, spend a little time on a skeet range with an experienced shooter, to help better get an idea of why you are missing. Once you have figured it out, the difference will be huge

If you shoot clays DO NOT SHOOT FROM A PRE-MOUNTED POSITION. Shoot as you should when hunting.

I think this above all else. If you stop your swing to pull the trigger when you're on target by time you pull the trigger you will be shooting behind the duck. Swing with the duck and pull the trigger never stopping your swing.

I very rarely shoot like that. Before I started duck hunting I was a pure spot shooter. My gun never stayed on my shoulder long for a single target.

Come on, everyone knows it's "Butt, bill, boom!" (Just the way I remember the old-timers' swing through saw.)

But I think I generally use the "pull ahead" method of starting on the bird and pulling ahead, which you've inadvertently described. I emphasized "think" because I really don't pay attention to what the gun's doing, just the bird. Have two guns of the same make and model with the same stock shims and do appreciably better with the old one that's front bead is long gone and have pretty much decided that even the relatively small factory bead on the new one is a distraction I'm better off without.
