Not quite yet, this is for my buddy that holds private access to our honey hole. Shipped straight to his house so I can't change my mind before he gets it.

Got some sweet kind to go along with that?
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Vortex make some nice quality optics. The guy a Cabelas talked me out of another pair of Leupold and into some Vortex Binoculars a few months ago, they have been a great choice so far, plus they have a no questions asked life time warrenty on them.

I currently have Vortex optics on 5 rifles and a pair of 10x42 Talon Binos

Unbeatable at every price point.

This. Leupold fanboys are impossible to convince that there could possibly be anything other than Leupold, although I doubt they could pick one out of a lineup, let alone consider it the best in class.

Leupold and Redfield are the best.

FYI, Vortex isn't even "the best", just the best at their price points. Shoulda seen the Lazzeroni 2000 7.82 Warbird with Schmidt & Bender Precision Hunter that came through the store the other day. Guy payed more for it used than I paid for the down payment on my house.

Don't give a hoot what you shoot, as long as my circa '70s 2x8 Leupold keeps doing what it does, I'll be its fanboy.

No one is saying Leupolds are garbage. Just saying that if you are buying new today, you can get better glass (and warranty) for less money. It just won't have a gold ring on the front to show all your friends.

I have to say I agree with Rick. If it was 1970ish and I was buying a scope, it would've been a Leupold.

It took me a long time to believe the Vortex brand was legit...it finally took someone stealing my Nikon Binos and me taking every pair of 10x42's from inside a major sporting goods store out the back door and looking across a 1,000 yard field with every pair to see the proof. The Talon HD's at $450 were more comparable to the $750-$1,000 Nikon/Leupold/Swaro/Zeiss than they were to the $4-500 glass in the store.

Absolutely. Leupold set the bar, no question about that.

For Binos I use Steiners military marine.

I like the concept of those, even though it is voodoo that I don't understand, but they leave a bit to be desired for clarity.

I've got a pair of 8x30 M/Ms, they're not even close.

My Nikon 7x50's get used for night hunting, they're fairly bright, but that's mostly a function of the mag x obj, not to useful for scouting

Close. It's a function of the obj/mag. It's called exit pupil. Basically the size of the picture getting to your eye. Anything approaching 5 mm is good, but I don't think you can see much over 6 mm.

Dang I may have to get one of those Vortex talons. I use the Steiners because they were relativly cheap and I got them as a gift.
