Good lord, Assa, it was probably only 25 pounds.

So in case inexperienced "engineers" don't bolt it down, they might have a chance of getting out of the way when it goes flying.

Now, in my defense, if I had bolted it down I could not have gotten the piece in to the needed position for drilling.

Possibly, it wasn't the right tool for the job then, was it?

Actually, I would say, what is more uncomfortable steel toed boots or toes smashed or cut off in what is left of nonrated boots?
As for the whole engineer running a piece of equipment........................dumb. Unqualified people should not be allowed in the same room with any equipment.

Actually to graduate from most good engineering schools you have to take a senior design/build class and to use any of the equipment you get qualified by the shop tech.

I am not saying I am at a machinist level, but I know how to operate most equipment to some level.

You do realize there are several different engineering sciences, right? Do you honestly believe that Chemical engineers, electrical engineers, electronics engineers etc. etc. are given a class in drillpress operation. Not to mention that there are hundreds, possibly thousands of Universities that teach all of these sceinces and, you believe they all hold to the same curriculum?
Maybe you might at least qualify your statement by claiming or stating you are a mechanical engineer first. Just sayin'

Mechanical engineer never got taught about drill presses. I know.
One, I am one and two, the guys I know wouldn't know wtf a chuck is much less the chuck key.
Actually was in plastipak's machine shop building pump stands when Don asked me how to put the bit into the drill press. We ran him out. Kind of like when Logan casts Milo.

Because steel weighs 490 pounds per cubic foot. It doesn't take much volume to get to 25 pounds.

Hmm. I can't seem to believe that to be true....

@?
Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I live, I will kill you. If I die, you are forgiven." Such is the rule of honor.

Well, that would make sense if it was a weight. But it's not. It's a clamp. And as such, the weight has nothing to do with its ability to perform its assigned task. Which would be "clamping", not "holding something down through sheer weight like a fat chick".
