Am I Lucky or Unlucky

Let's see if y'all are pessimists or optimists...

I was drilling a hole in some aircraft grade aluminum on the drill press, the bit bound up on in the last hole and started spining the piece I was working on which threw the 50 pound clamp (which should have been bolted down ) off the stand and 4 feet to the ground. Where it landed on a corner right on my middle toe, left foot. Some how it did not break...

So, was I lucky I didn't break my toe or unlucky that it happened in the first place?

I'm going with operator error. Yeah, operator error times two.

One, you didn't tighten your clamp tightly enough and two, you pushed the bit too hard.

Possibly three, you dinna put on enough lubication, and you mis-spelled spinning.

Why aren't you wearing steel toes?

Why is there any need for such a thing as a 50 pound clamp? A proper clamp will hold the same at about 3 pounds.

Andrew Luck gave my beloved Chiefs a kick in the ass during the playoffs. The Colts had some luck that day.

Not if you keep them in four-wheel-drive.

Anytime I see an engineer with a tool I always have something to fix shortly there after. Wish they would just sit in their office and color pictures.

Luck has nothing to do with it. I call it just dumb. You didn't check to see if the piece you were working on was secured before you started working. You also were not wearing protective gear. If you would've been hurt, the fault would lie totally on your shoulders. I hate wearing hard hats but I am thankful every time I ding my head off of something and it's on. That happens quite often as can be seen by the nicks and smudges on the white plastic.

St. Marys school for the blind 3rd string girls choir could have beat the Chiefs. I would call it Lucky Woody.

True, never said he wasn't. But the fact remains that Corky from Life Goes On could have passed for over 300 against that defense.

I was wearing every single required piece of safety equipment and we don't have an appropriate clamp that can be bolted down and still slide into different positions (I work for a small company).

What's unlucky about this is that you posted it online, so now next time we're working on something together I can constantly tell everyone to make sure Woody clamped it down.

I'm going with just plain dumb.
Drill speed was to slow and feed rate to fast. BTW they make composite toed boots. Way more comfortable. I wear mine everyday.

What kind of mount were you making for the boat?

Actually, I would say, what is more uncomfortable steel toed boots or toes smashed or cut off in what is left of nonrated boots?
As for the whole engineer running a piece of equipment........................dumb. Unqualified people should not be allowed in the same room with any equipment.
