Glimmerjim wrote:"Indian Runner" is kind of an interesting movie. Not spectacular, but they use the locale (Nebraska) well and there are two good performances by the leads, David Morse and Viggo Mortensen. Sean Penn wrote and directed it, based on a song "Highway Patrolman" by Bruce Springsteen. The name of the album the song was on is "Nebraska". Kind of an interesting back-story.
They also use a song "Coming back to me" by Marty Balin and the original Jefferson Airplane to set the mood. Crazy good song, especially if you've ever lost a woman you didn't want to lose. Grace Slick just plays a recorder in the song.

Why don't you like him, Rick? Personally, I'd prefer to meet his ex, Robin Penn Wright in a dark alley! She was freakin hot in Forrest Gump, IMO.

Now that you mention it Jim....... I'd like to meet him and Robin in a dark alley. She could watch me teach her ex husband some manners.....perhaps that would arouse her in some sick way.
Sean Penn is the ultimate Anti-America American and deserves to die an evil death someday.

That's not really saying much, it's a tourist destination now. They got people in and out of there all day and at the end of the day they make everyone leave. It's easy to get out of. Now I see why you have so many kids!

Yep, couldn't agree more Red. I think it's going to look a little silly saying "I'm your worst nightmare, ya whippersnapper" in "Taken 57" when he has a hearing aid, an oily comb-over, liver spots, and two of those wrist bracket walker cane things!

If his agent had any sense he'd cast him in a good comedy, or make him a villain or something!

Like DeNiro, Neeson can act his way out of a pigeon hole whenever he wants to.

Remember that chick that ended up being a robot in the second movie? That chick is ridiculously hot.

Lego movie is awesome. I think I like it more than my kids.

Funny to hear grown men talking about how good/funny kid movies are. My neighbor was telling me the other day how he liked the movie "Frozen"... maybe they've made them more adult friendly for the parents to sit though? I guess I'll find out soon enough.

This has been happening with children's progamming for years. Ever watch an episode of Spongebob Squarepants or Recess? I crack up everytime, I think funny is just funny. Movies are often the same way. Pixar has been dialed in on this since the big merger and really ramped up the efforts after the pre-written scripts were all released (everything before wall-E was on paper when they sat down for the merger. Everything they put out since is dry and witty and wonderful. That's why you see older couples plucking these titles out of the red box over the other crap that gets put out these days.

I have several DVD collections of Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain that I watch from time to time that still crack me up and which I hope to pass on to my offspring because they will be funny forever. I hope to add some Loony Toons sets to that collection as well. The dry humor compliments the good old-fashioned silliness to make a program that just kills me.

It also helps if you can appreciate some of the musical talent that goes into making these animated films. This saucy little vixen can just flat wail. Just outstanding stuff.

Truthfully, cartoons have always sort of been that way. Looney Toons has more humor which only grown ups would get/understand than kids. And they are all hilarious.

Yep. Especially if you go way back to the black and white cartoon days. When Mickey Mouse was Steamboat Willie! I don't think they were really even directed at kids, then.

I tried and waited longer than I wanted to give it a shot, but I turned off Easy Rider. Supposed to be this iconic movie but it was dull and just a couple guys, not even comically, doing drugs

Anyone seen Out of the Furnace? I'm cable-free, so I'd never even heard of it till it popped up in my Netflix but I figured Christian Bale, Woody Harrelson and Ben Affleck's little brother would probably make a decent movie. Glad I watched it, it was pretty good for what it was.

Cuba Gooding is better than Ben Affleck AND his little brother... ;)

Pretty good flick. After being laid up for the last 3 months, there isn't much I haven't watched!

Based on an older movie. Chick in it is super hot and she gets super naked.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

They don't show up on my phone how you have posted them. There was a space or two between the videos number and letter code and the last [youtube], took out the spaces and it appears. Might just be my phone.

But it shows up fine on the laptop.
Weird...

This is just a test, and maybe a help for anyone that didn't get the Cuba Gooding reference... ;)

Honest movie reviews

Postby gila-river » Tue Jul 22, 2014 3:10 pm

New robocop was pretty damn good. The original was one of the first R rated movies I ever saw so I'm glad they didn't ruin it. They had to tell the story in this one so there wasn't as much action as I would've liked but what there was, was pretty bad ass. They left it wide open for the sequel. 4 out of 5 stars. Worth a rent from the redbox.
