 I've never even noticed that mine are different! Now, before I change, is the difference brilliant or "stupider"? Never mind....I know the answer to that one! I'm sure I've been making this much more difficult than it needs to be.

Huh! Wild. We need someone smart to pitch in and explain to me why it would be quieter. Where's Spinner when you need him?

The same reason suppressors work.

The additional length of barrel gives the hot gasses developed in ignition a chance to cool and slow before exiting the muzzle thereby creating less of a "bang"...

The bang in a gun is due to the gases/shot breaking the sound barrier.

Well, to be technically correct - there are two "bangs". One from the hot gasses from the ignition and one from the sound of the ejecta (bullet/wad/shot) breaking the sound barrier.
In a standard configuration (supersonic ammunition, unsuppressed) you never hear the bullet breaking the sound barrier at the muzzle because the sound of the gasses exploding are louder than the sonic boom.

Sub-sonic ammunition has the benefit of a reduced charge (smaller explosion) and bullets that create no sonic crack.

GJ - right the sound barrier is right around 1100 fps

Post chosen just for example

Oh yeah! You're right. This is much easier!!!   I have no idea where I originally went wrong and thought they had to be attributed to everyone individually! Let me tell ya.....that can turn into a confusing mess when I was going back and forth with someone like Spinner! I'd get the quotes tangled and have double quotes and....
Now I can spend time writing much longer posts since posting them will be so much easier!   :o

I bet that dude gets more quim than a stack of Victoria's Secret catologs DAILY!
And yeah, like Eric said, those nails are for finger picking. Which he can do pretty damn well!
When he first started I was waiting for him to break into Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
