Wow that's crazy. The law couldn't consider that as a silencer either, I wouldn't think. Could have some VERY practical applications! Thinking about it though, you say subsonic ammo. I don't want to figure it from miles per hour. What is that in feet per second?

It's not considered a silencer by ATF because it contains no baffles to slow the gasses or otherwise re-direct the gasses.

It's just a straight tube.

So why does the longer barrel reduce sound, Eric? Does it slow the shot that much?

The shot breaks the sound barrier in the barrel so it dissipates into the steel rather than outside the barrel. Some sound does escape though.

This is a decent video comparing the sound of suppressed and unsuppressed rounds from a "down range" perspective...skip forward to about 2:30

It's not just a straight tube, it has ports all along the length of the barrel.

With the right powder and shot amount, even slower.

Need to have a heavy grain to cycle anything automatic though.

Hooooey! That's way over my head in the reloading dept. I'd probably just buy a cheap pump if that's an issue.

Right. But no baffles, otherwise the ATF would be all up in it.

The only reason they're not all up in it is most likely because:

A)they don't know about it, or

B) not enough people have/want one to make it profitable for the ATF

My thoughts exactly. Now that WE'VE brought it to their attention it's a done deal. Dammit!!! We need to work with homing pigeons.

No Jim, from what goldfish has told me it means he takes two dicks at once. I guess it's in the skinny jeans handbook.

Shit, there's a handbook? Why hadn't anyone told me about this sooner? I've had to figure this stuff out on my own so far

Dammit boot, if everyone knows that they aren't going to go looking for it to see if it exists. My advertisers pay me for site hits.
