I really don't see the point in it. At the ranges 7.5 would penetrate you would have plenty of pattern density with 3s or 4s. All I can see happening with 7.5s is some shot up ducks and busted teeth.

Yep, 4's do just fine for me.

I usually like 3s. But on the last hunt me and my dad were both shooting 3s and 9 of the 12 needed another shot and 3 I had to chase across the bay. But the birds were working long and it was windy. Probably shoulda been throwing 2s through a IM or full

The only ducks I ever have problems with are canvasbacks, but I've had to chase them after shooting them with 1s.

The one puddle that we hunt is only 15 yards wide and 10 or 12 yards long . And thing bigger just destroys birds .

And in the swamps most are close shots under 15 yards .anything over that is over kill .

This is what you get for shooting to close with a big shell .

Or you could choke your gun for the range you are shooting.

Had a guy last year in the blind with me. Some rich dude shooting a high dollar gun, all fancy wood and engraving. Kept giving me the rundown on his special 2 3/4" hand loads, bla, blah, blah. Finally asked me why I shoot 3.5". Simple they don't make a 4". For somebody with as much money as this sport, he wasn't much of a tipper! :D

I'm sure there are great loads out there. Back in the good old days of lead3"6's were hard to beat. I do believe the 3.5 is overkill for most hunters. But I rarely shoot unless it's at falling cripples or on the water. Besides I'm small in stature and it makes me feel taller! ;)

Haha. I'm just messing with you. Shoot whatever gives the best confidence. That's 90% of wing shooting anyway.

You know if you like 2&3/4 3 or 3& 1/2 who cares. It's a pointless discussion that will be around for ever. If you like 2,3,4,5,6 steel shot who cares. If you like federal, remington, Winchester who cares ain't any of them different. In your opinion they might be but what works for one may not work for the other.

OK rant over I feel better. Continue discussion.
