Drake Cinn. Teal

Decoy carving talk of all skill levels!

Drake Cinn. Teal

Postby Scott R » Sun Jan 12, 2014 5:42 pm

Been a while since I've done a bird. Been in a carving funk for lack of better term. I did finish this one a couple of months ago. Went into this one with no intentions of selling, competitions, worrying about it being perfect, etc. Just did it because I wanted to do another cinn. teal. Have no need for one but just wanted to do it. I think this is the first bird I've enjoyed carving in over 2 years because I had no motive other than just having fun with it. It has some problems but I don't care...it was fun. I think I'm getting back into the groove again and enjoying the process.

Cork body, tupalo head, and acrylic paint (Goldens and Traditions)

Thanks for giving it a look
Scott

Scott I was looking through a book I have that contains VA, NC, and SC style decoys the other night loking for a bit of inspiration. There is an old Chincoteague carver named Dave "Umbrella" Watson that had the same angry look to his birds as well.
