Starting three wigeon

I'm starting to carve my first ever wigeons. Got the drake carved and primed. now it's on to the two hens. I just used a GHG wigeon as my model for this first one as I wanted it simple. I've not carved wigeon before so this is the "first birds learning curve" thing. I'll make the hens fancier. I'm using tan cork for the body, sugar pine for the head, and it will eventually have a maple keel weighted with some lead shot on the inside.

Started working on the hens. Got one this far. I'll shore up the one wingtip next time.:

How do you attach the heads to the body. Is it just an adhesive?

There's a deck screw from the bottom that runs into the head. There's also 5 minute epoxie and 2 dowels glued in with Gorilla Glue.

Whittled down the hen's bill a bit. Better, but not perfect. Should be fine for this bird though. Gonna work on thinning the next one's face some and hopefully improving on the bill. Also drove a finish nail into the raised wingtip for support, and put some Apoxie Sculpt on the wingtip and wing edges for added strength and protection.
