Sucks worse when a load of shot catches them in the ear. Perhaps ironically, most shot dog incidents I'm aware of saw the owner clipping his own dog when it jumped in front of his gun. Probably happens a lot more often in areas like ours, where dogs are commonly hunted beside pit blinds, than others.

But good blind manners go well beyond safety by contributing to opportunity. A dog that minds its manners affords more gunning than one that doesn't, at least down here. Mine are taught from puppyhood to lay quietly by pits in the face of distractions like calling and released pigeons and are pretty good about it.

Usually... Here's a quote from one of my logs:

Dog(s) and Dog Work: The coyote stood up on one pair when he thought we would shoot (low, low but behind the blind), then dove for cover when he realized his error, but too late. And I told him so in no uncertain terms. "Interesting" part was that our guests had just complimented his manners, and I'd told them, "He doesn't run anything off." The dog you brag on...

Working my dog at day break I get 15 minutes and then it's to hot .
Her 48"X 24"X 16" deep tub is where she wants to be !

Although hunting pigeons 3 days a week doesn't bother her one bit !

Worked great for my lab & britt, but Taz has destroyed 3 of them while I was at work. He splashes all the water out going crazy, then drag the pool all over the yard. It once ended over the fence, my neighbor saw that one.

Aaron, she might not be impressed with the small pool. Giving Taz another go with his, he couldn't wait for it to fill up.

Told Taz to fetch a Pringles can 30 minutes ago, forgot about it while doing dishes and laundry. Still sitting there holding.

Reminds me of a bong I made back in the day. Actually, several bongs. Pringles can, stick of big red gum, and a pen, and presto-InstaBong.

I once fixed two flat tires with big red gum (and the wrappers), and drove about 40 miles home. No shit.

Plastic tennis ball can was my first college dorm bong!
