There's a couple guys here from LA. I'd say moving from NE to LA is a net positive for duck hunting. Very, very much a positive! I'm a little jealous.

Labs work really well out here because the water is fairly shallow

But with the gators and snakes is it safe to sent to lab in the water?

By the time duck season opens most of the gators are hibernating and the ones that stay out in the winter are mostly small ones I've seen some big enough to eat a dog. During the winter but they are usually slow because its cold. Me personally have never heard of anyone losing a duck dog to a gator during duck huntin I used to hunt deer with dogs and the odds of snake or gators is low. I have bever hunted anywhere else so I don't know what other places are like. But if u make it down here and need a lay of the land hit me up there is only so many public hunting placed but the ones we have are good

private blinds can get expensive in the south west part of the state from Kaplan to Welsh but u can find some good public lands u can hunt with a boat blind, ive always hunted public land ammo and gas are the only things that really cost

We are actually just gettin our quail population back I see most of them in the cane fields so if u can get permission from a farmer to hunt that's ur best bet

I wouldn't be I've never heard of a hunter loosing a dog to a gator in the winter they are so sluggish if they aren't buried underground hibernating I honestly think u would be fine hunting with ur dog down here. Maybe if u do make a hunt talk to some if the local hunters and get their opinions for the area but me personally havnt heard of someone losing a dog to a gator and I usually hunt the marshes
