The hunt

Postby quackhead » Mon Sep 01, 2014 10:38 am

So the boy and I got out this morning. We weren't on the X by any means but atleast we have a chance if we're out. It was a perfect spot with great hide. The morning started off with me running down a skunk and shooting it. Then we had a couple different doves come by when I wasn't ready. Finally a flock of 4 doves came by and I took one shot with #2 steel and dumped my first wyoming dove. A little later a solo dove came in and I dumped it with a number 1. My boy was having a hard time understanding why I wasn't shooting the ducks that would try to come in :) . Hunter was getting bored so I let him take his shotgun out and shoot the goose decoys. I heard some geese and had him run back to his blind and sure as shit, we had 7 geese coming in on a leash low. I took one shot as their feet were about to touch and dumped two geese. That was that. Our limit is two so I was done. Unfortunately the other 5 were taunting me and wouldn't leave. It was a great morning.
The morning was clear and 38 degrees.

Nice! 38* I'm jealous and it sounds like the little guy had a blast.

Sweet. Memorable hunt for sure.

Headed out the door about 5. Temp was 38 again. I had a flock flipping their way in at 715 and 2 shots and it was over. Wish I had more hunters with me because I had 100 geese coming in while I was getting the truck. Some even landed in the dekes. I was hunting a disced grain field

Nice. The 5 bird limit here is nice. Although I've yet to hit it.
