Best place to live

With me retiring from the Air Force within the next 4-5 years, I have started the search on where I would like to retire at. Wife likes Texas for the climate and I would die a happy man if I never seen -60 again. The criteria that I am using for the possible move would be in this order: stable job market, affordable housing, duck hunting, turkey hunting. Given these qualities that I have listed, which part of the state would you move too?

I'd say North of Dallas. Good job market for your accounting and good numbers of birds. Competition will be pretty heavy unless you have your own land. Not really the best state for turkeys it seems and can be hit or miss.

What areas north of Dallas? I wouldn't be apposed to a lease if it meant that I could have my own place to hunt by myself.

Many, many different small communities up there. Would just depends on what you are looking for.
The coast is awesome but seems the only stay job down there is to work in plants or work in Houston. Houston is a shit hole deluxe.

Up where I am if you got a boat you are golden. Two good lakes nearby that always hold birds, but I don't have the equipment to hunt either one. We have a decent turkey population that seems to be increasing since not a lot of guys hunt for them anymore.

Texoma and Ray Roberts. Ray Roberts is great but you have to get a stamp to hunt it for some reason or another. Many guys I know limit out every weekend during teal and big duck season.

Coastal bend of Texas. Great fishing, great duck hunting and lots of opportunities for turkey and deer hunting. Warm and humid in the summer and the Oil Patch is only two hours away which isn't far if you work two weeks on and two weeks off.
Oilfield cash for oilfield trash.
Looking for work on the water, my nephew is working on a tug boat going up and down the ICW. 2 weeks on and one week off and making pretty good money. The two weeks on includes room an board. Oilfield includes room but not board.
Texas has lots of jobs and where I live is less than an hour from CCNAS if you need military doctors and services. Housing prices here are very reasonable and the real estate market is pretty stable.

I forgot to add that I will have an Accounting Bachelors and Masters degree as well. If possible, I would like to utilize my degree in my civilian employment. We have entertained moving to the Sugar Land area, but will move to wherever I need to for a decent paying finance type job.

Not sure why, but "shit hole deluxe" just cracked me up. Has now entered my vocabulary. Thank you.

Nashville tn is I think one of the top 5-10 best job markets right now. Franklin is where I live which is 40 min south of Nash. It feels like a small town but has everything you need and very nice. If you like living in a subdivision there's lot of those. If you like the country with lots of land there is also that. With country music being here we've got a rich culture going on. Turkey, deer, duck, fishing... Even had a farmers elk get loose for a couple months lol. Had a bull and 2 cows just wondering around. If you like live music every now and then it's always around. I've lived in MS and FL but came back here. I wouldn't leave here for nothin.

If you move to Texas, it is required by law to change your name to NoGeese4Me. Coastal Texas is the only good duck hunting I've ever really heard of also.
