I don't believe it is to zero yet, I think it's about half of last years water. It's going to be interesting, we could use a lot of rain before winter is over, not that it really started here.

We've been starting to sneak Prozac into Gaddy's food, just in case.

Why don't you guys just build a pipeline from the Columbia, from below all the dams. Hell, half the power the dams generate here goes to Cali, might as well get the water after the power is generated too.

Fuck that Mike, let'em use seawater

They're already taking it from AZ, the Imperial valley has the Colorado about sucked dry.

We are still in ok shape if we get rain this spring. The federal refuges will be possibly screwed. The states have ground pumps to flood up. The feds run off of a main irrigation ditch. Called the 2047. Im still a skeptic on all this. Rice might take a hit. But the money generated from the refuges can't be replaced. We'll see what happens.
Ha! And how much money is generated from the refuges?!

At some point we have to prioritize.
Fresh vegetables from Cal. or use the water for something else. Its not about "what is more profitable".

For instance...if trash man nuked Vegas tomorrow...that water could go to veggieland instead. Palm Springs could go too.
Duck hunting is fun and all but I kind of like lettuce.
I remember a year where we could not get it. Buying $3 heads that were half rotten...
You want that?

I'm really not that into salad until I haven't had any for a few months. Then the craving slowly builds...
I recall going on a lettuce binge when the shortage ended.

You don't know how good the water tastes til the well runs dry. We take so much for granted.

Easy there that's my livelihood tripod! . Honestly last year was a bigger shortage of leafy greens than anytime in the 90's. And in the winter time almost all of the u.s. Supply of leafy greens comes from Yuma county AZ. Not California.

We have kinda fallen in love with the variety bags.
She hasn't bought iceberg lettuce in a long time. Maybe that's why. (Shortage)

I try like hell to stay out of stores. The inflated prices piss me off.

It doesn't even cover operating cost homie. If money dictated water I believe farm land would be getting it all and the refuges would get zero. We are lucky someone cares enough about the ducks for the refuges to get any water at all.

exactly right. I imagine operating costs of the refuges trump whatever money they make. Besides if the farm lands get the water...the ducks will still have places to play, it just won't be at the refuges.

A large percentage of the money used for operating cost is derived by hunters use of the refuge.

The short of it is that irrigation districts are privately held and are able to irrigate based on priority date and availability of water. Most irrigation districts have fairly senior priority dates in my part of the state, don't know about the west side.

Not exactly, the state owns the water, but any individual can apply for a water right if they have a beneficial use for it. The state is the record keeper of all rights, but any fighting is done in district court.

If there is a shortage of water, senior water rights holders can "make call" on junior users, allowing the senior users to fulfill their rights before junior users can begin diverting. It's simple in theory, in reality things get a little trickier!

I hope this doesn't hurt anyone's feelings but , the gov is working on restricting pumping water from the ground TOO !

Saying , how much water do you need to keep your crop alive , then only allowing half that , which shows on your power
bill , unless you cheat and try other power sources !

The way it's going , there will be fist fights and shooting for stealing water .......in this state !

Look at it now ? rivers closed , lakes at 30 % and we are running out of the rainy season too !

Oklahoma Dust Bowl won't have shit on us !

Better move now before you can't see the road to get out of here !
