Bad news for all

Well I talked to a local refuge manager today about our drought and water issues. He told me at this point refuges have been cut 50% and several refuges could receive zero water next season unless we have a very wet fall.

He told me if they leave a few dry next season they could flood one large refuge 100% or flood all the federal refuges 50% but only 25% of the hunt areas would be flooded because the rest would be used for the closed zone.

My fingers are crossed we get rain but this is what the plan is if we stay dry.

The rice guys have a saying for next year.

"He who has the water gets the slaughter."

How much does a blind cost?

It depends on location but I would say average is 6 to 7 thousand for a 4 man blind.

I know it's a stupid question but that's per season right? And do you get exclusive rights?

Damn.

It's not cheap that's why we split the cost between 4 of us.

Yes and yes. Basically you can hunt any time you want form November until late goose is over in February and it's 20 minutes from my house.

We may have to rethink the WCH if y'all don't have water.

Have you talked to Joel bout his club's water?

If I had the cash I'd probably do it too seeing the birds you put down.

Now that I know how much they cost, I better put them in the safe with my bullets.

For political reasons I can see Joel's area having less water restrictions but I could be wrong. I think our fate will be decided in April.

I've grown up hunting rice and I love every part of it. As long as I can responsibly afford it I'll have one.
Plus it's much more relaxing then public land hunting.

Rule number 1 of hunting:

Never figure cost per bird!

We've had water restrictions for refuges and state marshes for the last 4 years. Change the way you hunt and work hard, you'll still kill birds.
