My standards are too high. I wouldn't fuck any of those decoys.

I don't goose hunt except for the early season. And I usually will throw a few out in my puddle spread just because...that's my extent of goose hunting.

I'll take any Flambeu decoys any of y'all decide to burn or toss. I've had to sit there and moan as people were burning decoys before.

Ever watch a guy burn a dozen FBD snow goose decoys and then start in on the Canadas?
I always seemed to show up as they were burning the last two or three. MOAN!!!

Burning decoys because they are dirty or needing some paint is stupider than....
Guide services do stuff like that though. Have had to help do it before.
You gotta drink a lot of moonshine to ease the pain.

Here is one that I hacksawed off its head and re glued it at a different angle. You can do that ya know? I find at least a dozen dekes every season. Sometimes more. Usually with weights and everything but...ugly old flambeaus that nobody wants??? Like I said, Those are good and they work. I have 30 year old ones to prove it.

Nice work AB. But be careful, when you flock a duck, you flock every duck that duck has ever flocked with.

Some tips.
Thin your paint so you can go fast. Othrrwise one side of the head gets dry as you paint the other. This is important because thicker layers tend to crack off quicker. Learned the hard way.

Only fill the ketchup bottle quarter full or less. Frequently shake it and twist it to build up static. That helps the little clumps unball. Tiny little puffs of air is how to apply it the most efficiently. Go slower and you waste less. Timing is important because the paint needs to get tacky. Not that hard but keep these things in mind. I have one more chest to go and then start on the heads. Then the black n white parts.
Low on black n white so will just do the white parts this time. Am assacheap.

When you get going you'll develop a rhythm . Puff, puff, puff, puff oh yeah baby...a little slower, yeah that's right.
:scooter: :scooter: :scooter: :scooter:
You know...I started this thread to be a serious thread about flocking duck decoys. It kinda got turned into something else and I'm goin' with the flow. Jumping in with all four and little aunt betty too.

If you think it's easy, you should go try and flock, yourself.

Made a video of flocking the chest on a mallard decoy. It only takes a minute not including the prep-work.
I let them sit a few minutes before tapping off the excess. Counted and I have 19 drakes in that style.
12 hens. Nice little timber spred. The last thing I'll do is touch up the feathers. It's cool and easy to do. I'll take a paint brush and some flat black paint. Dip the brush, paint it almost out dry, then kind of drag it across the tops of the feather details.
It's the final touch and makes decoys suddenly look way more realistic.

Maybe this will make all my low budget friends feel a little better.

When you get home from work, do you tell the wife you are ready to flock?

I should start a side-thread called "how to break her in".

You start out just hunting on Saturdays so you can give her your full attention on Sundays. Church, the whole nine yards.
Then slowly you start going hunting on a Sunday here and there the next season.
Then a few years of raising kids. That's when you break free and run like ____. Hunt every minute of every weekend. Take the kids a time or two until they decide they hate cold and wet.
That's when you start doing three-day and four-day weekend hunts. After the kids decide to go...or not.

Then one year you take a whole week and the weekends that are attached. Send her to Vegas that week if you are smart and can afford it.
If you can make it past this point and are still married...you got it made. Then you start going for two weeks and up.

Did you pay ungodly shipping and handling from fowlflocker AB. I went to order a duck and goose flocking kit from them and it came to like $50ish. Witch wasn't too bad...but the shipping and handling was almost $20???

I think is was about 35 bucks when I got mine three years ago. $25 for the kit and 8 or ten for the shipping. I didn't get the extra black and white. Just do it!

You do realize it will crack and peel off? You have to touch them up year to year. Maybe not. I hunt a lot.

They use the USPS and they just doubled their rates or something like that.
Sorry but that's why. The package weighs almost nothing. The flocking is enough to do a whole lot more than they say. I been using the same kit for a while now and have only used maybe half the stuff.
The white and black...they skimp on. Not sure why. You get a little teeny baggie of those colors and large ones of the brown and green. You get enough green to do ten dozen heads I bet. The brown goes kinda quick because the area on the chest is much bigger than a head.
I wish they would have gave me three times as much white and black. After you re-use the white a couple times it gets dull.
The black is awesome but again...not enough in the kit.

It's fun until you get into the second dozen. Starts getting to be work. If you had a crew...one painting and one flocking it would go much quicker. Haven't trained her well enough for that.
