I always believed ducks were brightly colored so other ducks could see them better. Exagerate the white parts because white stands out in the field. A bird watcher taught me that is how they spot tiny birds is by looking for white.

Wire brushed them. The bed pan is to collect and recycle the overspray. Applying with the ketchup bottle after painting the area with proper color. Re doing one old beat up one that I did three yrs ago. Took a beating this season.

Fifteen miniutes later I have one head done. I hope the guys I got pissy with about shooting them understand why now. Its a lot of work getting to be that purty.

I'm going really slow. Warming up to the process. The goal is two dozen flocked decoys that are all that style.
I have a dozen of the earlier model of Flambeaus done already. They just need tuned up from being used last season.


Three dozen of these babies is plenty in a timber-hole. They glow when compared to other non-flocked dekes.
I'm using those second generation Flambeaus because they are taller and catch more wind. I've watched these same decoys for years and trust me...them taller ones move 3-5 times as much with the gentlest breeze. That's why I grab every single one I see when I find lost decoys floating around in the woods. I let others go but NOT that particular model of Flambeau.

Here's the older ones... I painted some to look like bluebills.
Haven't noticed all my decoys are water-keels yet. I walk-in hunted for many years, got good at tossing them, and when I got my boat kept using them. I can throw out 3 dozen and have only 2 or 3 upside down. Sometimes none.

Fixed a hole. It will prolong the inevitable, yes.
Made home-made sausage gravy and biscuits for dinner. I'm too fat to flock.
Tune in tomorrow and I'll finish flocking the flock.

Same here, at $400 a dozen you almost have to be. The only decoys I bag are full bodies.
