I don't think I'd do that to 4-500.

I prefer the type like is on the right side.
Bigger and taller.
The one on the left is the previous generation.

I got a bunch of old speck decoys I'd like to try and figure out a way to flock.

I have killed hundreds and hundreds of ducks over my flambeus. I especially like getting them for free because someone too good for flambeaus threw them away. One mans trash is another one's treasure.

On a local forum I did that exact same thing to a kid. He said him and his buddy wanted to try and flock some bigfoots and wanted advice. My reply: take them out to a movie and then a nice dinner. Guys usually screw it up with dinner first then the movie, and the girls have time to "wise up" during the movie from the dinner refreshments.

You've known the secret to getting squatch into bed this whole time? You know we have some hardcore sasquatch enthusiasts here that would kill for that info right?

Never had the patience to do it myself, but I came across some old Flambeaus and decided to have them repainted by Blue Collar Decoys ($5 a decoy at the time). I was pumped with the results, and honestly, I'm not sure I'll ever do it myself if the prices stay that low.

Paying someone to tie on your fishing lures too?
Satisfaction of knowing I fooled ducks with decoys I painted and flocked myself has very much value beyond $5/decoy for the work.

That's $60 a dozen! I don't even spend that much on my decoys new!

I didn't pay a dime for these decoys. Let me elaborate. I bought a small flat bottom (10') with a trailer and motor from a guy two summers ago, asked him if was interested in trading and that I had plenty of duck hunting stuff. He informed me he was getting out of duck hunting and would probably sell everything else next, told me to make him an offer. He had approximately 5 dozen decoys (4 of which were these Flambeaus), a handful of quiver butts and magnets, and 4 bundles of the 4'x4' grass mats. I got all of that and the boat for $400. I sold the boat for $650 when I moved from Michigan.

Back on track, for $60 a dozen, these are the toughest damn decoys I've ever had. The finish is unreal, and I have literally beat the living piss out of these decoys and the paint is still immaculate. I've even gone as far as to beat the decoys together to break off chunks of ice. If I win the lottery tomorrow, I would never own another decoy besides BCD, but until then, I'll keep having them repaint my old ones.

I let them sit a few minutes before tapping off the excess. Counted and I have 19 drakes in that style.
12 hens. Nice little timber spred. The last thing I'll do is touch up the feathers. It's cool and easy to do. I'll take a paint brush and some flat black paint. Dip the brush, paint it almost out dry, then kind of drag it across the tops of the feather details.
It's the final touch and makes decoys suddenly look way more realistic.

Maybe this will make all my low budget friends feel a little better.

Is that a box of donuts on the table?

I found the flocking demonstration interesting but I have better things to do than paint decoys except with a spray can. I am going to get a couple dozen quart milk jugs and pour black paint inside them so that the insides are coated, going to use spark plugs for anchors and I am betting that "black blocks" will attract just as many redheads and bluebills as the best G&H decoys.

Or close enough that you'll not notice the difference, but it'll probably take a heck of a wad of spark plugs to hold them against a tide.
