Couple of pintails

Still working on getting out the rest of the repaints for the guy who's picking them up on Tuesday. He had 4 pintails in the bunch. Got the 2 drakes done. May, or may not get the 2 hens done. If not, I'll just have to drive the 18 miles to the ranch and deliver them.
Not sure why the eye didn't show up in the front one. Really...he's not blind.

That's some great work. Do you use a stencil to keep the lines uniform?

Is all your flocking the same color and then just airbrushed? Or do you use different colors to start with?

How does the air brush/flocking relationship work? Flock then air brush the color over the top?

From what I've gathered flocking is applied and then painted. Or put on in certain places with the appropriate color.

It's there a "non-colored" flocking material? All I've seen is the colored stuff.

Some guys flock all one color and then paint, others use different colors on different spots. On the back of those drakes it started as all grey, then white outlines then black fill. You can also vary the appearance of the flocking by using different colors of paint underneath it. I'm using various colors.

Uhhhh.
I flock my decoys.
The process...
First paint the area you want flocked. If I'm doing a mallard I do the head first using forest green rustoleum. Paint gets tacky quick and sticky...that's when I use the bottle to puff puff the flocking on. Use newspaper to catch excess and recycle it.
Found that doing one layer isn't as good as two. After the head dries, paint the flocking, and reflock again. Three times if you want.
Use tiny artist paint brushes for details and a flat artist brush for larger areas.

For the chest on a drake use brown paint and flocking. I finish off by doing the black and lastly the white.

I found the flocking holds up best if you put on one good coat and let it dry really well. Then wire brush it to get all the loose flocking off and scratch the paint underneath. Then put on one more coat after that. The ones I did like that held up 2x better than the ones I double coated without wire brushing.

If I use my decoys in timber the flocking keeps clean and looks great. A few days in a rice field turns em UGLY quick.
