Bought some old mallards that were pretty much down to bare plastic.
These are fully flocked except for the back.

Look good. How did you flock them? The saw dust thing? (Sorry I don't know the technical name)

Flocking fibers. I bought them from fowl flicker. You just paint the part you want flocked then soon as your done paying one color on the decoy you just press the flocking into the paint. Makes a huge difference in durability and glare.

They look a little cartoony when you first to them but after a hunt or 2 they look a lot better.

So, is the flocking colored, or does the paint come thru?

It is colored. But the paint has to be the correct color too because it's still visible through the flocking.
Green paint...green flocking
Brown paint...brown flocking.

Nice. What'd it run you to flock a dozen if you don't mind my asking.

I bought the mallard supreme kit from fowl flocker last year. I think I've done about 30 drakes so far with it and still have enough left for at least 10 more. I think it was around $30 shipped. Then I just used rustoleum paint that I bought in quarts. Think 4 quarts was around $25 and I'll have enough to do more decoys than I'll ever have.
So I'd say about $1 decoy. Depends how well you contain the flocking to reuse the extra.

I saw Boot had a way to wipe paint over decoys with a glove to get the feathers right. Maybe he could pull it up again but I think it'd work on those gads. Need some black but look great.
