Good news on the second black duck. We get tons of blacks here second half.

Gotta wonder if this will include Mottle ducks since they are so similar, and most cannot tell apart??

Our waterfowl biologist says no, and it sounds like we should be thankful to still have 60 days of 1 mottled per.

Bummer! Thanks for the feedback Rick.
Hard to believe that the duck population on the West coast is so much greater that they can get 47 add'l days????? I've always been under the impression that it is the Mississippi Flyway that holds the most birds. Seems absurd in comparison, not to mention a 7 duck limit............especially given the population density of people out there.

Think it's far fewer hunters vs. the hunter density of Louisiana, for example. Could be mistaken

And wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more hunters.

https://flyways.us/regulations-and-harvest/harvest-trends

The total ducks harvested in the Mississippi flyway is way more than in the Pacific flyway. From the report in the link, 400,000 active hunters and 3 million days of hunting in the Mississippi flyway versus 140,000 active hunters and 0.9 million days of hunting in the Pacific flyway. That's why the longer season and more liberal bag limits.

Wish I'd photographed some of the hunts I do in Arkansas.
In 2012 there were 4-6 million geeenheads at WMA Echo. Oh God what a sight.
It'd take hours for them all to fly by. Just watching a show like that is awesome and so far I've only seen anything like it in southern Illinois or Arkansas.

The pattern the ducks use there is rather unique. They fly north at sunset, feed all night then come back in the morning.
They fly up to 50 miles out and back daily, sometimes twice a day. (up to 100-mile round-trip)
