Rain, Rain, Go Away....

Postby DukMan » Thu Jul 13, 2017 8:17 pm

Well I'm getting a taste of what you LA boys dealt with last year... Fox River is 5+ feet over the historical flood stage and my property went from a marsh to a lake....

Blind - underwater
Woodduck houses - underwater
Enclosed decoy trainer - underwater
Flatbed trailer - underwater
Hopes for a decent duck season - underwater

With unprecedented amounts of rain the ground is over saturated and likelihood of a fast drawn down is nil... I figure I lost about $500 worth of decoys that floated away and I only pray the blind doesn't pull up out of the ground...

Trailer only holding decoys and my kayaks but will need a thorough drying out whenever I'll be able to get in there and get it.

State of Emergency declared and National Guard activated... thankfully my home isn't affected but I can't say the same for my neighbor who's basement is a total loss with water lapping at the first floor floor boards...

It's disappointing knowing we lost 2 of my woodduck nests one with 11 eggs and one with 13 eggs... but no one could have ever imagined this much water...

We will rebuild!

My blind is 12 feet from ground to the roof!

OUCH!!!!!! Sad to see you losing some of your sweat equity DM, and hope that the water goes down quickly. Ma Nature is gonna do what she wants, can't stop her.

When you open up that trailer would you mind posting a picture of what happens to the decoys inside it?
Not a very nice comment but I'm super curious. Forgive me plz.
I'm imagining three to five dozen honker floaters all crunched up to the roof.

Neighbor caught some kids acting like asses out there... not to add insult to injury but now I have to check the roof of my trailer and go have a chat with the neighbors...

I've seen semi-trailers stuffed full of fbd's but they were snows and I think you'll probably have some dents. FBD's can take a beating. Probably setting them in the hot sun in a black parking lot will make the air inside expand enough to pop the dents out. You'll be fine.

I'm not overly concerned with the condition of the contents... however I am concerned that the trailer itself may be in a state of disrepair... me and my father just replaced the subfloor the walls and all the aluminum sheeting 3 years ago... last year I built in bins and a counter top to hold decoys and separate blinds..

Of course non of the material used was treated and the entire layout will be a loss.

To make things even worse rain in the forecast for the next 4 days! I'm chalking the trailer itself up as a total loss.

I hope it's not.
