That's north to me. I'm on the OR/CA border.

Hoping to get out after them for a few hours Monday. Right now the forecast is snow. We've been right at 25-27 every night so they are going to water and feed. Snow will keep them trading. Any open water should produce.

And after I blow a 32 note highball at every one of em they'll be extra decoy shy.

It's a good thing I jump shoot a sewer pond. No need for decoys!

Isn't all the corn considered "baiting".

I made myself chuckle yesterday when I damn near did this. We had buffies coming in all over, but the black ducks weren't playing. Finally called in a pair of singles, and we whiffed. After that, none would even look twice. I saw one lone black duck about 300 yards away crossing the bay, so I gave it hell. The only reason the first note stopped when it did was because I had to stop and laugh. Then I picked right back up where I left off. Was cracking myself up.

BIL asked me "does that work?"

"Nope". And went right back to wailing on it. I was just mentally done hunting, after 7 in a row.

You never know until you try them. Places we hunt usually have multiple other options for them to go. I've started calling more and many times has at least bought us a look from birds that gave us no thought at first. If not for calling at long birds yesterday we would have left with 4 birds instead of 9.

Gotta love how a black works to a call

Did you ever try a drake whistle? It's become my go to call for those bastards.

I use a whistle almost exclusively. Wednesday morning, We were hunting a new area, further from the salt. I thought there were 3 mallards coming and hit them with a couple quacks. Imagine my surprise when they immediately turned and, 3 black ducks lit in the decoys. So I figured I'd give it a whirl uesterday. No dice!
