We started out Saturday morning at the boat ramp near my house. My motor which had been running great wouldnt start. My buddy went home and got his boat and my son and I met him out on the highway. We went over to the seaside and hit the water around 7:30. Way late but we figured we could at least shoot some dippers. We ended up with two black ducks and 10 dippers for a limit.
We went home and I messed with the motor with little improvement. I think a coil has gone bad. I had some friends from the middle of VA show up to go seaduck hunting. I called them to see where they were and they had been caught in the fog on the bay and didnt even leave the mouth of the creek. I told them to come and get me and I would get us out to where the birds would be. We set out and didnt leave the mouth of the creek into open water far before we started to see scoter and old squaw infront of the boat. We bumped a raft of birds up and got our long lines set. The fog lifted a little and the birds would fly. Then it would get so thick we couldnt see the end of the spread. Then lighten up and we would kill birds. We gave up around 4 after killing 4 old squaw and 12 scoter. I managed a drake squaw, my first, a drake scoter and two hens. So after all the trouble and fog I ended up with 10 birds for the day but certainly had to work for them.
