2012-13 Bluebill daily limit change

Postby QH's Paw » Mon Jul 23, 2012 6:25 pm

I can't believe it.
I'm on an emailing list from one of our State bird Bios. He is on the Pacific Flyway committee. Here is an excerpt from his email today.

"Also, FYI, duck seasons will once again be liberal, similar dates to last year. Bag limits for mallards unchanged, 2 pintails, 1 canvasback for the entire season, with the biggest change being 7 scaup daily for the entire duck season. "

i read a post on DHC NC forum a while ago that said they are thinking of increasing our limit to four per day. we have been at two for a few years now, before it was three per day.

i would love to see it.

when you say that about canvasbacks, does that mean yall get one per season? or one per day for the entire season(that is how it is here)?

If it happens, it will be worth putting out a decent spread again.

I don't know for sure. I didn't notice the wording until you pointed it out. I was so stoked about the Bills, everything else was like "blah blah blah yada yada yada."

Thats good news Paw, about the time when they close us down on bills is usually when they get thick around here.

There is no possible way for them to effectively limit us to only 1 Can per season, it has to be 1 per day. If it was going to be one per season they would have to issue us a tag (like a deer or turkey tag) that would have to be punched when used.

Huh. They say the bills are on the decline here. They keep getting random mass dieoffs on a couple lakes up north.

I seem to remember that where they do the surveys, it showed a 21% increase in scaup this year. There is a posting somewhere on DU site that shows it also.

Yea, I know what they published, but they don't like something in the lakes in northern MN.

Wanna see something funny? Look at a US brood study map, and MN will be blank. Its cuz we do our own for some reason that doesn't coincide with the US one or something like that.

And yet last year the pins were upped to two. I don't get it. Not like I can shoot them anyway.

Any study could show black ducks were down 43,078%, and I'd still see 322 of them every time out. Only getting one is bad enough- if I couldn't shoot any, I'd probably take a hiatus. Or poach.

For those with questions or doubts about the info., try starting at page 21. This is the Feds info and, what most everything is based on for the frameworks at each flyway.

I got much relevant information about scaup and their existence. I am writing thesis on terrestrial and aquatic animals for my doctorate study. This will add some noteworthy points in my study.
