DOVE

9/1/14

Morning started off slow, severe storms and wind overnight had the birds screwed up. Moved and found a field with birds, which I also have permission on. Ended with a 5 man limit of 75 dove, 17th consecutive year with a limit on the opener.
The worries of lack of work during the off-season went away fast, as Taz had a great day of marking and retrieving. Handling needs to be tidied up, but I expected that. The heavy rains did make sone nice hiding and cooling off spots. Morning was 61° with a slight breeze, way better than the 100 before storms arrived yesterday.

Cold front has made the dove hard to find, ended the day with 16 dove. Hope to find some tomorrow.

The few dove we seen yesterday, seemed to have disappeared overnight. Hunt was called early and we headed home.

9/10/14

Morning was slow, 2 birds at noon. On the way home passed a corn field with birds, took an hour but got permission. Rest of the hunt lasted 30 mins. Good cold front and the only cut corn field in the area had birds condensed, worked very close into the mojo dove.

Same field as yesterday, still lots of birds but were getting more weary. Still finished the hunt in short time.

9/13/14

Morning started with a heavy fog and 33 deg, not typical of KS dove hunting, same field as earlier this week. Birds were still in the area, but were becoming very shy. Jeffs son in law made his first hunt, and shot very well, fun seeing him get his first birds.

After shooting a limit of 2 chickens in the morning, went looking for a few teal and dove. The teal were nowhere to be found, but managed to get a couple dove while checking ponds.

9/20/14

Back after dove today, got permission on a newly disced corn field. Lots of birds, but were staying in the middle of the field, still had many shooting opportunities. Taz had some help today, a good thing with the warmer weather, Maggie, Kali, and Gypsy also had a good time fetching up birds.
