Specks/Snows

Honk!

Specks/Snows

Postby 3legged_lab » Wed Feb 20, 2013 11:26 pm

So we went down to "the spot" monday afternoon and chain sawed a few holes in the ice hoping to give the birds someplace to use. Nothing big, just wanting them using the area. Decided to take a drive down today and see if there was any sign of it getting used and they have already froze back over.

The third pic came out fuzzy, but the 2nd pic could have been 3 frames wide and still not show all the birds in the sky.

Good luck 3leg our late season ended today and it was tuff for most! No weather and as soon as the first shots went off the birds went back to their late January tricks!

I know of one of our bios at the refuge was on his way home today from hunting somewhere down near you guys. Haven't talked to him yet to see how he did. I'll probably see him Saturday. He is one helluva speck and snow caller. Wealth of knowledge to pick his brain too.

I don't think the weather did us any favors, cold and blowing snow. Very few opportunities (I think 3) , but I only managed 1 speck. The birds just didn't move. Well, the pintails and honkers did of course. Could have shot 2 limits of sprig and an easy limit of honkers.

Good looking speck you got anyway, so congrats on that.

We saw more birds than this morning but most were still too high. I did decide to load the 10 and got its first kill - not 1 single bar on this speck. haha. I sailed a second to the next property over and my brother shot a snow.

Those juvenile specks are the best eats. I wish our season was still open today we had a good north wind blowing and the geese were everywhere.

I'm not even certain "astatine" is a word.

Yep, apparently so, since it left it alone on mine too.

Well that's a relief, thought you were calling me a woman.

It shoots nice, recoil difference is negligible with its weight and being an auto. I was having a hard time finding my lead, the only shells I had to shoot were 1260 fps.

I am assuming that that is a Browning Sold, but how much does it weigh? I have a mag 10 that comes out at 11 3/4 that is a PIA to carry long distances. They are awesome to shoot. I like ahooting mine a lot more than shooting 3 1/2 12 ga loads.

Actually I did weigh it the other day out of curiosity - 11 1/2 pounds. Good thing it mainly gonna be for the goose pit.
