Goose Calls

Postby Tyler8492 » Mon May 06, 2013 5:10 pm

I am looking to buy 2 goose calls. I am looking at Zinks, Tim Grounds, and Banded Goose Calls. I am looking to get one that has more of a low pitch, and one with a high pitch. Wandering what a good one-two combo would be?

I know you didn't mention them, but I had a GVCC PCS which was high pitched. Good to run, and good quality, but a little high pitched for my liking. May want to check them out.

TG- Super Mag for a low pitch and G Overhauler for a higher pitch. More than anything it's how the guts are set up. TG Triple Crown guts tend to all run the same IMO, also length of the barrel makes a difference in tone. Longer-deeper, shorter-higher pitched for the most part. There are a lot of good calls out there from other call makers, some much better than the brands you named IMO.

Zinks are easy to run and usually higher-ish pitched and the grounds calls are lower-ish. I won't even try a banded call because of the fowl life.

My favorite call was Wing-Lock till it cracked. Never owned a goose call over $60, but since my Wing-Lock broke I might get a more expensive one. May wind up getting another Wing-Lock.

The TG half-breed is a pretty good high pitch call, I currently use a Southern game calls Sentinel.

I've got Mark at GVCC fixing me up with a XXX. From my research, I have found that there are a lot of great goose call makers. You'll have to check around and play with some to find what you're looking for.

If you give GVCC a call (probably most makers), Mark will run the calls for you over the phone to give you an idea of what he has available.

Good luck!

My current favorite high and low pitched Canada calls are both GVCC XXXs, simply tuned differently. But everyone's physiology, methodology and tone preferences differ, so what I think is great may suck for the next guy. If I were you, I'd conspire to go somewhere where I could try out a number of calls and see what I was most comfortable with then learn to tune it to best suit yourself.
