How can you see out of a pit blind? I have never hunted out of one before and was just curious. All my hunting is done out of layout blinds.

This was the biggest bunch of specks I saw in Thornwell yesterday:

Know there are more around, but it's still far from "right".

Quoted for posterity (like Custer's "Where'd all the indians come from?"). But I hope you're right.

Absolutely, I'm positive I hope you're right, we'll have folks in Thornwell, too.

Come on Rick, does this look like his first rodeo?

Opening day can be great for specks if you're on the proverbial "X," but the geese are freaked by all the sudden pressure and don't tame down for a while. I tell folks they don't land until Thursday and am only half joking. Working "traffic" can be a real booger the first few days, and I find they get easier once they're accustomed to the shooting and think they know what to avoid.

Hudson, I don't know how much you follow these forums, but please know the "first rodeo" joke isn't on you. I'd mentioned on DHC that there's a Natural Law in effect that makes people who say "This ain't my first rodeo." screw up horribly shortly thereafter, and our man Jehler made the mistake of challenging that Law prior to his Louisiana trip last year. After which he found himself shooting like an elderly matron in front of witnesses anxious to report it.

His hit percentage was about as good as Jr's water swatting percentage!

Wouldn't want to rule that out entirely, but the Law is the Law. Have seen it tested time and again, always with disastrous, or hilarious, result.

I work for a commercial camp with leases in Cameron, Vermilion, Acadia and Jeff Davis parishes. Our biggest "Thornwell" piece is north of Thornwell, proper, and south of Bayou Chene.
