On Their Way Back

Well it looks like the honkers are on their way back up into Canada. My buddy spotted a few on the refuge in Kenmare yesterday. This time of year they will play some back-and-forth but as each day passes we will see more and more. Don’t be fooled though it’s not like they’ve made some big huge migration. There’s usually a good bunch that ride winter out on the Missouri River.

Made it down to 29 F in south louisiana this morning; would seem the flyway awfully chilly for that to have occurred, on this 1st day of spring, no less.

The Canadians  here in Illinois don't migrate much because there are giant Canada geese that won't leave.

I swear that is part of what made them quit going south.
They short stop around Effinghell.
Illinois imported them damn things.

Last night when I took the dogs out there was a single flying around town honking away in the dark night. Also when my wife was on her way home from the big city of Minot she spotted six flying. Hearing more and more reports of them every day. Although I wouldn’t consider this the greatest time of the year, it is a great time as you know with the sight of the big birds winter is coming to an end sooner than later!

Hundreds of pairs of Canada geese make nests in that area. Even behind the self storage place

About 1000-2000 never left this area...might be going north soon, or maybe not.

We used to see that back in the late 80s and early 90s but I've not seen a big flock since.

There was a time when guys in Chicago would see flocks, jump in their trucks, and chase them to Grassy Lake.
It was a very big deal and then it was over.
You've probably never heard of Colin Cain or Grassy Lake Hunt Club.
It was real.

My dad was kind of a big shot there.
Where is Ware?
Don't matter it's a duck club now.
Geese don't go there. :|

There is high ridge southeast of the club a few miles. We'd see a huge flock come over the ridge, set wings, and glide them few miles t the club.
Imagine the anticipation of that and you're sitting in the black hole with 10,000 fbds.
Yeah it was like that. My dad rented the black hole two weeks a year until he couldn't shoot.

Was always a tightwad. That club was not cheap.
I went there once, had a bad day, never went again.
The Ware newspaper has a lot of good pics of my dad and geese in their archives.

I think it's 40 years old and it's not a goose venue anymore.
It fits me...not you.
I should wear it to a du banquet and see if anyone notices. I remember my dad wearing it. Nice jacket but old school. Finding a jacket like that that isn't embroidered might be impossible.

Have had people creep up on me thinking I was Roger a lot.
We act alike, walk alike, stand alike, it's eerie.
Have had ppl walk up on me in the bee yard.
They said they thought I was his ghost.

I can go to Arkansas, walk into any random duck club, and they'll show the room that that Illinois guy uses and it's full of illini shit.

This pretty well ended the deal when my school went woke and...

I was there. Thats my stub.

That young man was from India and did the best performance I've ever seen.
The school actually had an Indian and he only danced once. He was the future chief. What a buzz kill.

I can fit into a medium I just like looser clothes but I would make an exception for that jacket
