But your brush do probably be brown by now - not that that will necessarily matter on day one. Will be over that way in a bit and will try to remember to stop by and put the spy glass on it.

If the area is like it was this afternoon, you might not want to go. Mighty dead compared to how it's been the past couple weeks.

Only went to the first bend in your path to snap this shot of the blind, but didn't see or hear so much as a bec croix there, either:

"Deer hunted" a few miles away this evening and saw next to no birds moving there, either.

Suppose they know the season dates?

Wonderful.... I heard some of your green grass grazers heading north tonight.

I'd also avoid looking at the 10 day weather forecast. Gonna be a sweaty Christmas.

If that was in your stubbles, it's the best thing that could happen to it.

Maybe so, but the birds kinda like well used stubble.

10-4. I call it Arkansas style. Not slick water like most places in northeast LA

Long last preseason day for 2015. Began by not seeing, much less killing a buck this morning. Progressed through readying other people's places - and seeing precious few birds in my travels. And ended late this afternoon with the Mudhole ready to go:

Along the way, I got to see the neat site of an eagle staking out a body of geese:

and the sad sight of an old bull gator wasting away in what must be a miserable death in a road ditch:

I'm no fan of the alligator but have to feel for that one - and hope he doesn't crawl onto sun warmed pavement and maybe wreck someone else's life, too.

Didn't see but a couple dozen ringnecks, a dozen grays and a pair of mallards in the marsh, but trust opening weekend activity will give us at least a couple good days before same-warm-weather doldrums set in next week.

I'm having fun now, whether the birds show Saturday or not. Where's that Hornady One Shot oil can?

Rick,

passing off season days by reading through threads from our last season. Do you have an oil suggestion you found to be liked by the Benelli/inertia bolt system? I'm looking to find something to stick with. As I think I've seen you note before, I've found the M2's inertia bolt to really like a good oiling.

I was impressed by this guy's testing http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=751408 and after trying Frog Lube (too much trouble for my lazy self) and Hornady's One Shot ended last year using the later. But I've used everything from the much maligned by many on these boards RemOil to automatic transmission fluid (which for a while was re-bottled and sold as $$$ smith's oil) with good results. My Benellis have just seemed to like their bolt rails wet regardless of with what. I shoot them until the action starts to slow, hit each rail with a shot of something and shoot on when more maintenance conscious folks are cleaning.

With just one season of experience with inertia, the M2 has seemed to likewise run best when the slide is slick and fast. I may give the Hornady stuff a try if it's easy to use.
