Didn't try to get close enough for pics with the dogs along, for fear of either running them out of a place it tickles me to see them or making them any less wary of what appear coyotes.

And speaking of odd bird sightings, there were three white-wing doves hanging out in the yard with my pigeons a bit ago. First I'd seen in LA showed up with them last year, so maybe in a few a more years we'll have a flock...

Rick my buddy who works in lake Charles says he sees them regularly more west of you.

Grandson, Preston, helped me pick what I'd like to think the last alligator nest of their 2016 season this morning:


Would like to think he'll help me with a few bluewings next month, but he's starting with a select ball team that may preclude that. Guess we'll see...

Checked out a couple new farms today. One I'm not nearly so excited about as the big cheese, but the other looked like this last year:

From Elliot to Alvie between Humble and the drainage that divides that block from 14. Big open stuff the birds like if cannons don't put them out. Believe the owner's son is going to guide part of it, so we should, knock wood, get some cannon relief.

Other piece east of 91 is pretty scabby, but the birds may like it better than I do.

Just spoiled my own morning by looking at the Humble road piece on Google Earth: shows six teal ponds on the piece between the drain and 14. And three right across the fence from our already questionable long, thin piece on Ellis Bridge Rd.

That's a beautiful piece of duck and speck property I admired every time we passed by. There would be a side by side parked there at the grain bins every now and then when the specks took to that place. I'd assumed a guide with customers, from the look of things.

Farmer's son. They've enough family land around Gueydan to hunt that he gives the hunting on the Big Four school section to the fellow who built the pretty log camp below it.

Got a compliment to my daisy cutter yesterday and it might be the go to call.

That 40th Anniversary model is said to be a return to the early, bigger-bored Short Barrels that many of us liked a lot better than the anemic recent ones.

Rick, would you have the opportunity to try out any of the RNT 40th anniversary line. Upon comparing my new 40th short barrel to my circa 2010 daisy cutter, the short barrel has a bigger bore, which surprised me.

Mapped out the Humble piece; this is not far to the NE of the camp I stayed at for opener of 2009 season. I recall watching a bazillion or two ducks and geese working between these two points. Camp being just east of intersection of Big 4 and Monceaux/332.

these geese came right over us from that area, at 12 gage (not even 10!) range

Yes, honey bees, and no, I've not tried the anniversary calls. Just know they're supposed to be a return to before they "improved" them. Virtually certain my early SB shared the same bore with my half scroll DC ('04 or '05), just wasn't as harsh. Believe that when they later decided to make the DC more user friendly, they had to throttle down the SB to create some appreciable difference between the two. And know the more recent SBs I've tuned for folks were disappointingly anemic.

Yea I've got one of those more user friendly Cutters, might look at getting one of the more original cutters with the more open bore and aggressive sound.

Sometimes I wished I lived in a serious waterfowling community that I could spend time with and learn from, but the internet had helped that, just would prefer to visit with folks in person.

I believe the 40th anniversary DC is also supposed to be a return to the early design, and that would be a lot cheaper than one of the early run DCs that collectors pay silly money for. But I don't know that it is.

That's my understanding too. I believe the 40th's could also attain some collectors value in time.

As with our other two flagship calls the Original and the Short Barrel, we have made upgrades to the Daisy Cutter in celebration of our 40th Anniversary. We’ve taken our best selling call of all time, and made what has set the standard in pure raw and powerful, nastiness in a duck call, even more obnoxiously nasty. The toneboard changes along with the opened up bore, only builds on the Dasiy Cutter’s legend as reigning king of raunchy aggression. We also have changed the appearance of the call by adding a smaller diameter lip on the barrel, brass band, and a new 40th DC decal. This new design may not be for every one, but if you can run it... game over.
