Set up on a little marsh hole, waiting on the sun - and for the second time in as many trips, I'm wringing water out of my shirts before shooting hours.

The duck gods owe you one now!

Hopefully, you are where the birds want to be today, or at least in their flight path.

I guess just be glad it is 10/06 and not 11/06 or 12/06. Hopefully got all if that out of the ways for the year.

Sunrise: 7:46 am
Overcast, 54°, mist/drizzle

Peeked in this spot last week and saw 125-150 honkers and 60-70 mallards, a few real and a couple redheads and ring necks.

Didn't oversleep, in fact was set up nearly a full hour before LST...had a couple birds in the decoys 10 mins to go and was feeling pretty good.

Those were the last birds I had anywhere near my shotgun.
Literally saw nothing else within a mile.

Nice morning to be out.

You think all the strong winds are pushing the birds out of the area?

Nothing glamorous like stumbling into a beaver run in the dark.

Just finished setting decoys, had an hour to go, and thought "I'll just sit here on this grassy hummock and wait on the sun" - 'cept I misjudged the width of said hummock, sat down on the side of it and promptly rolled off into the 8-10" deep water.

So no lesson learned, I'm just hoping my current string of dunking doesn't follow me to Layout shooting.

At least it's not the last week of the season!

I laughed this time, other day not as much.

I don't remember the last time I got skunked, let alone 2x in a row.

Hey, I'd take a skunk over sitting in LA right now, although on Saturday I am going fishing for Durado and Tuna. Which is a nice consolation prize.

Hopeful thinking, my friend! Deadlines are tight and it's truly coming down to the wire.
