We've been seeing woodcock already. Some flying at dusk in groups. It's been a while since we've seen this around here.

Current front position can be seen by the temperature contrast. If you look closely you can see the ducks in front of it. :D

We'll be headed south shortly as well. Have a guy at the camp cooking up a little shrimp and crab stew. It will be waiting for us when we get there. He caught the seafood just a bit ago.

Weather - Clear- strong north wind temp low 50's?

Myself, Blake and Bennett

Birds- 12 - 4 Green Wing 1 Blue wing 3 gadwall 1 shoveer 3 scaup

The wind was a big issue for us with the downed birds. We stopped shooting multiples in big flocks due to loosing a few to the waves, and passed on a few bunches. Ellie did really well but couldn't keep up due to the wind speed, and I was limited with the pirouge. I did go out after a few birds and it was he'll to get back. With the wind was a blast :D I hope this winds lays down a bit for the mornings hunt. We have a lot of birds around, lots of big bunches of green wing and gadwall..... I'm watching a big flock of high specks right now, headed SW.

BGcorey wrote:We saw tons of grays coming from the south and headed north. All stayed high except some that were already low and came right in. You're right about the wind, it was rather tricky letting the birds sail for a long time it seemed like until we called the shot. Also no big groups of green wings which I was hoping to see. Guess they are in your area for sure. Also coming from the south was tons of specks like Rick mentioned in his post from today.

I was fortunate enough to share the blind with friends who are speck hunters that fooled 2 specks to work our decoy spread (all ducks) and come close enough to kill. And not just "breaking wing height" , these fell dead. It's the only specks that I know that have been killed in that marsh in a very long time, but then again, I doubt the past lease members even tried to fool with calling at specks though since our marsh is a little deeper water. But it was my first time shooting specks over marsh and will remember it forever. They broke a group of about 15 as well but they didn't come close enough. Glad ya had plenty of birds

Weather - Clear- Light north east wind to start, getting a little stronger later in the morning....temp low 50's upper 40's?

Myself, Blake and Bennett

Birds- 14 - 1 Green Wing 3 gadwall 1 mallard hen 1 pintail drake 6 shoveler 2 Bufflehead (pair)

Seems we can pull a few shoveler from every working bunch but other species seem to make some barrels crooked. The green wing seemed to have moved a bit east, as evident from the straps out that way, but we did have a few flybys. Saw a few more grays this morning, and the scaup and spoonbill were active, passing on a lot of those. We did have many missed opportunity's on dabblers of many species to reach the limits, but one or two ducks a flock ain't gonna get you there. We had a wonderful weekend!

Blake scratched another species from his list this morning, taking a pair of Buffelhead for the wall. They are headed to the taxidermist..... They came is together.

Another first this morning, according to Bennett my cousin, was his first pintail drake. I hunted with him a a lot in our younger years and I can't remember him ever taking one, either. This one is going to be remembered by a couple of photos, and it's on the menu for next weekend.

Indaswamp, which some of you may know from DHC, called me while on our drive home this morning. We finished our conversation and minutes later he sent me a text and then called me. A camp neighbor took this White-winged scoter in their marsh this morning.

Tell Blake I said that even my then-4yr-old grandson knows, "We don't shoot baby ducks."

I never knew to look for the black bar distinguishing the really mature green-wing drakes until a taxidermist from Missouri pointed it out to me:

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving... We'll be with family tomorrow filling our belly's, then we'll head to the camp in the early afternoon for an extended weekend in the marsh.

Weather - Clear- Light north east wind to start, getting a little stronger later in the morning....temp mid 50's?

Myself and Blake

Birds- 8 - 3 Green Wing 1 gadwall 1 Bluewing 2 shoveler 1 scaup

A lot of birds in the area, just not active birds. Seems they wanted to just stay on the water and make noise.

We rode around and caught sight of many lazy birds today.
