Terrible times in south LA
I've not been to the camp he works for and only know the general area, but unless they built it in a relative hole, I'd think it safe.
Can't say the same for our little town, despite an awful lot of people's best efforts to wear #2 shovels into #1s and break a slew of strong young backs hauling bags, we were told to shut down our sandbagging efforts a little while ago, as the sandbagged levee has breached along the lake in front of Cheryl's aunt and uncle's place. (Two old coonasses who say they're not leaving, but will hopefully boat on over to our "ridge" if/when push comes to shove.)
Can't say I'll miss the cramps or old guy morning miseries that have shown me I'm not the shovel hand I'd like to think, but the community effort was heartening, and I met a lot of great folks from away. Last young fellow I worked with this afternoon was with a mission group and from Washington State. Said he'd been here (working his young butt off) two days and already loved it. Said the people here are a whole lot nicer, but it sure seemed to me that Washington State had reared at least one great kid.
