If it's not working, pull the BFs. Watched a lot of birds that had locked at a distance on them pull up way short when they got a better look at a mixed spread of BFs and smaller, more realistic speck decoys the other afternoon. Nothing worked them once they got there.

Thinking on it, that spread left standing for the split also had two or three snow decoys, so they may have been what screwed the pooch...

(Ok, now I'm picking. Have shot a lot of specks with such a small splash of color in or near my speck decoys and might again if I took the trouble to paint two or three good FBs as a blue and snow.)

S'pose I should also point out that there's no way of knowing how much of the problem could be blamed on the spread being left out, other than that a whooole lot of low birds blew right on by without winking or blinking at all.

Always seems to take forever to come around, then is here before I'm ready.

My rule of thumb for pre-season panic time:
Not sure about everyone else but the off season used to drag along for me real bad up until July 4.
The way things go around here is everything sort of accelerates after the fourth.
Suddenly BAM it's Halloween and it seems like fourth of july was two or maybe three weeks ago.
Odd but it's true. At least for me anyway.

I have to get busy quick and get the battery checked and go over the boat motor and trailer. Find all the blind pieces and the decoys waders and everything else. Got better and better at stowing it all so I can get ready in like two or three days tops.
What really helps speed things up is not converting it to a fishing boat. It takes a good 15 minutes to take the trolling motor off, bolt on the headlight, and hook up the wires. Right now the headlight is still attached. Just ain't got the urge to go fish at Chaos Lake.

So...when is the "preseason 2017" thread going up?
Are we there yet are we there yet are we there yet?

Are we there yet?

Been a while since I've been on a northern interstate, but couldn't help but think of that kids' question, when "Minutes to..." signs started showing up outside Covington, KY and the Ohio cities. One would think most adults could convert miles to minutes well enough for practical purpose.

Not sure of the question or the specific signs, but if they are like some I am familiar with, they account for what traffic may lie ahead. So sure you may be going 60 mph and so the next 10 miles would be 10 minutes, but if the sign says an hour, you have trouble ahead. Time to take an alternative if you know one.

Google is scary creepy fast how quickly they can keep this up to the minute on their maps app.

Been my thankfully limited experience that you're either doing 70 to survive in that 60 zone or dead stop for miles before the hitch, which would seem to suggest finding an alternate course - not that you could get to it.

If highway speed is a mile a minute why the fuck does it take 90 minutes to go 45 miles on a highway in Arkansas?
Ever drive from Manila to Jonesboro?

Thought about pulling blind lids, but will take the chance that water won't get high enough to pop them...

None here locally, at least not yet. Only had about 3" of rain and just enough wind to clean the dead wood out of our oaks.
