I got mine at the end of June and the fed stamp as soon as it came out.

Opening morning of dove season was very nice....weather wise. I started out beside a pond hoping some would come off the roost and be thirsty. Just not as many birds using my cousins property as last year. I shot 4 times and killed 1. We got 9 as a group. Good breakfast in the field though.

Little brother and I checking his lease north of creole this morning. Thankfully water has dropped a good bit. Saw a few teal along 27 early, figure most are sitting with no reason to move.

I would imagine that rain fill marsh on the ridge is pretty full this year. I do remember praying for rain every year when I hunted that area, though I may be speaking of land a little further south of your brothers place??

I remember muskrats being a big problem back then in that marsh with push ups (dens) covering large areas. I was actually looking for those this weekend and only saw one from the road near Pecan Island. I haven't been in the creole area in some time and I may have to take a road trip in the near future. I have a friend who's had a blind on the west side of 27 just north of creole for many years. It's a section his grandfather hunted and it's going down the line.

Don't know if they've ever had any muskrat issues. My buddy has been on this lease for almost 10 years and my brother has been in with him for last few.

The only year we were concerned about huntable water down there was the bad droughts of 2010 and 2011.

3 teal hanging out with my live decoys this morning. Better late than never. Was 57 this morning in north Louisiana and felt great.

Thank you. We bought the property in 2007, and have enjoyed it a lot. Bought a house next to it in 2012. It's provided many fresh fried fish meals.

What are you guys thoughts on the idea floating around about starting teal season on Friday September 15 and ending Saturday the 30th next year?

I prefer the traditional Saturday opener.

Not being one who would lose a day, I'd prefer the later start to improve the likelihood of having more birds down. But, again, it's not my ox being gored.

Yea heard this idea was being kicked around. Would like to think I'd still be able to go on that Friday and get a long weekend out of it so no sweat for me. Do understand, however, that many will not be able to hunt the opener who otherwise would.

Then again its my understanding other states open their various seasons on odd days as well, not just Saturdays.

My thing is kids should not have to miss school for opening day of anything. Folks shouldn't have to take off a day of work either.

Still beating that drum looking for someone to agree with you I see...lol...First it was text message, then facebook and now you have hit the hunting websites... :D

Kids and Father's take off in Louisiana in huge numbers for just about every opening weekend. Tomorrow there will be fewer kids in school than at any time in this school year. It's a way of life in La. I tried to explain that to you yesterday.

Truth be known as you admitted yesterday you don't want to take off a day of work to hunt teal and you are conjuring up stuff to make a case.... :o

I'm getting as much of a response as I can. I know I'm in the minority so far, but since when does the commission listen to the majority.

I've attended my share of commission meetings, majority doesn't matter. Pretty disheartening usually

It's really not enough of a change to really worry about. Not sure what has you so interested in this topic to start with. Surely it can't be one day of work out of the 240 that you work already in any given year.

Then again maybe someone asked you to seek opinions... ;)

It's the limited time off I have. 10 days vacation a year isn't a lot, and i would rather spend them on regular duck season days than teal season opener. I'm sure there are many others in my situation. If it opens on a Friday, I'll just miss it and hunt Saturday.

OK...it's a personal preference. I get that but you keep saying others, kids, this, that, and every other excuse you could think of but at this point nearly everyone is saying they are ok with it if not in favor with it because later is likely better and they would gladly make a long weekend out of it.

I'm not sure what you hope to accomplish?

So we are ONLY considering this on the occasion that there is a Friday September the 15th, and thus also having a Saturday September 30th?

That was my understanding of Larry's proposed possibility.

I can't speak for Larry but it appears that is the consideration at this time. As you know in 2018 we would get the same exact dates with the traditional Saturday opener and Sunday finish.

The year after that we would hunting until the 29th. Then the calendar gets less friendly as far as hunting until the end of September.

Keep in mind the seasons are set much earlier now so people would have time to plan for it.

I can't ever see the season opening on a Tuesday or a Wednesday just to say you you are hunting as late as possible but anytime you can and start on a Friday I think it's a good idea.
