So it was y'all making all that noise that kept us from getting a shot until about the time you finished.

Temp mid 50's? - light ENE wind

Bill, Bennett and me

Birds- 18 - 14 GW 3 BW 1 spoonbill < Bill shot this one

Another quick morning. Teal are thick, and we're finding their crops stuffed with small grass seeds. I'm guessing the refuge is getting em fat. I know this won't last, but we'll take advantage of these wonderful little rockets for as long as we can. We'd have to go out later in the morning for big ducks to even have a chance to work those. The shooting around us within the first hour of LST is non stop. Blake was content with yesterdays hunt and slept in. He had pancakes and bacon for us when we got back.

Like that you're displaying that spoon front and center. "Walk proud, tee boy, walk proud." (We'd of shot more today, if they'd given us the chance. Didn't know if the dogris limit was 2 or 3, or we'd of shot more of them out the pile.)

They sure work pretty, I got to give em that. (spoon) We passed on a few, and one big bunch that locked up and came cupped, front and center.

The robins are here!

Heard and saw my first flock this morning while outside at home enjoying the morning, albeit for only a brief moment. Then again later at a work site nearby. Unmistakable sound...Maybe this year will be like "old times".

Glad those teal ate ya'll up Dave!!!!! Lots of good eating there
Where we hunted, seemed like the big ducks worked a little later, and wondering if that may be the case for your area as well. Both days of the opening weekend, seemed like the later it got in the morning, the more big ducks we saw working, especially grays and pins, but still hard to resist a bird in the hand.

I'm pretty sure we'd do well late morning on big ducks, as they return from the rice to lounge, but I can't pass up the teal right now. This past weekend has really soothed my soul and I'll be ready after this coming weekend to slow down and work birds. BUT! as long as these teal are around this will be hard to do unless we'd get out there late morning.
It's really satisfying for me when you fool a big bunch and they end up front and center at 25 yards. That's really what it's all about, for me. We'll have the opportunity later in the season for those big ducks , and I'm really looking forward to the full week after Thanksgiving to do this...... Hopefully the marsh is quiet at that time.

Meant to reply to this Tuesday evening. Walking into my deer stand Tuesday evening the robins were everywhere. They were singing their heads off and enjoying hunting for worms in my pretty bright green food plot.

I've had communications with a couple of guys in a blind just south of ours this morning. Seems it's just a bit slower, with them getting there limit after 8, 6 teal and 6 grays. They passed on scaup and spoons. Not much human activity in that marsh today, which didn't allow for the early morning stirring.

I really wouldn't mind a slower pace and quiet marsh.

I was looking through pictures on my phone and came across this one of Ellie after her busy morning last Saturday. She made that old recliner hers.

I'm looking at her now in that same exact position as I type this. She's is getting gray. Damn roseau cuts on one of her back pads. Not too bad, though.

Temp 60's- Moderate south wind

Me and Blake

Birds- 12- 6 GW 4 BW 2 gadwall

Still a good many birds around, constant bird movement during the entire hunt. Had many dos gris in the decoys along with smiling mallards over the decoys. Had a few mallards in the mix with one hen that was answering us loudly, she broke, but rejoined her mottled friends that she was in flight with. Had a pintail drake surprise us over the decoys while I was busy working Ellie. Neither of us were ready. We did see a few flocks of those. Waiting for the front to pass, should be a good morning.

Temp 50's- Strong North Wind

Me and Blake

Birds-12 6 GW 1 BW 2 gadwall 1 spoon 2 scaup

More grays and other big ducks around this morning. The water level dropped significantly over night and I hope it stays at this level. The ducks are loving it...... I love the smell of marsh in the mornings.

Clear, Temp low 40's?- Wind light from the ESE

Me,Blake and Bill

Birds- 3 GW

Lots of ducks still around, just had a fiasco to our east that I'm not going to elaborate on. This has been taken care of. We passed on wave after wave of dos gris, and had grays, teal, mallard and others sitting tight and vocal around us. We got out of the blind around 8:45. The one blind just south of us on our piece that hunted did get their limit, just not sure of the species.

Crab traps produced well, and we're boiling now.

Clear, Temp mid 50's?- Light easterly wind

Me and Bill

Birds- 7 - 4 GW 2 gadwall 1 redhead drake

Birds are still around just not moving much. I've been waiting on a group of redheads to give us a look, and it happened this morning. I did ID them early, coming dead center for the blind, but last minute doubt caused me to wait on calling the shot. This pushed them off center to my right, the lead bird was a drake, no shot for me. I didn't want dos gris.

I can't wait for everyone to go home! I'll be here all week, so maybe we'll have a chance to actually work some birds.

Blues and snows by the hundreds passing over as I type this, and have been all morning. The refuge is filling up.

Bill and I went out after the hunt to freshen and thicken the brush... The island is growing......lots of work....Penthouse suite.

Thanks!.....This was what we had to work with. I don't think this blind has ever had much brush work in the past. The couple of growing roseau stalks you see in the picture are still green today.

Thanks. The spread has been working pretty good. They seem to funnel in front and center. I have a mallard machine in the center.
