Standard Ruger American & Vortex scope question?

Hi Everyone, My first post and I'm a noob. I have lost of stupid questions so please be kind. I just got my first rifle and looking to have a scope mounted. I'm looking at the Vortex Crossfire II deadhold BDC 3-9x40. What size rings would I need and will picatinny rings fit? I also been watching videos on mounting and deciding on installing it myself and purchase the kits or having a gun shop install. What do you all think? My end goal with the rifle is to hunt. Taking my first hunting class soon. What would help?

Mostly a bunch of duck hunters here. Putting a scope on a rifle is better address in a big game site. We're shooting 40 yards at moving targets not 400 yards at stationary ones.
