Lower

I really expected at least a couple fail to feed or eject, or problems with the bolt catch, or something, especially since we were using that cheap steel cased russian ammo. The polymer lower has one advantage over the metal, in my opinion- the fit is "tighter", with far less (almost none) rattle of the upper on the lower. I don't know how much you've messed with ARs/M16s, but the uppers tend to feel like they're barely attached sometimes, and rattle around quite a bit. This plastic lower makes it feel like it's much more of a single unit.

Excellent. Except for the fact that I want to burn up the same money that much more now.

Do it, I jumped in.

First 30 rounds was a brush, wet patch, dry patch after every round. Next 30, same thing after every 3. Then it was time to rock and roll. I was surprised at how clean those cheapo russian .223 were when I cleaned it last night. Not bad at all considering we shot 120 of them.

Jim - any useful youtube videos that you watched for assembling the lpk? Maybe just a link to some directions. Or did you just know what you were doing ahead of time?

This is the one I used. There's a ton of them, though, and I only watched about 4 before settling on this one. I will say, the biggest pain in the ass is getting the bolt catch pin in. That sucked. And it does help having another set of hands when getting the trigger pins in. If it's the wife, make it abundantly clear that she offers no advice, and simply pushes the fucking pin in the fucking holes when they are finally fucking CLOSE to lining up, or your thumb will feel like it has a hole worn through it from pushing down on the hammer while she waits for the holes to match up to some sort of NASA-specified exact tolerance or some shit.

Try it with your wife "helping" you.

Assa, you need to record the next time you have her help. I'll bet that would be pure gold in entertainment...

No.

It mostly just sounded like this:

"PUT THE FUCKING PIN IN"
"It's not lined up just right"
"JUST GET IT FUCKING STARTED THE END IS BEVELED, IT'LL GO"
"No, I can't see through all the way yet"
"PUT THE FUCKING PIN IN- ILL HIT IT IN A MINUTE JUST GET THE SONOFABITCH STARTED"
"Honey, just move the hammer towards the front a little"
"FOR FUCKS SAKE, I CAN'T FEEL MY THUMB. GET THE PIN STARTED IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT'S HOLY"

But tripod, it is very simple. I think it took maybe 15 minutes, and that was watching the video as I went.

Hmmm, I may have gotten lucky when I installed mine (actually not mine, built one for my cousin who was overseas so it was ready when he got home). I've only ever done one, so I did the same thing you did, looked up some YouTube videos and went to work. When I installed the trigger group (RRA Match), I was actually able to lock the hammer down by engaging it on the sear. From there, all I had to do was make a minute adjustment forward and the pin popped right in. No extra hands required. I want to reiterate that this is the first and only time I've done this, so perhaps I got real lucky, but this step was pretty easy for me.
To achieve success, one must possess dedication, passion and a boatload of decoys.
