It's a pressure thing. I don't know much about guns, but a 5.56 barrel has a much bigger "forcing cone" (or whatever it's called in a rifle). Shooting 5.56 military out of a .223 barrel will spike the pressure. Not a lot, something like 20% more, but it's not recommended as a "regular" occurrence

I am not so sure I believe that will harm a .223 barrel.
This is only my opinion.

Something like a .223 barrel is 55,000, a 5.56 is 57,000, but the lack of that little longer "forcing cone" in a .223 barrel (the 5.56 "forcing cone" is a fuzz longer and a hair less steep) will result in a spike of up to 63,000 if you shoot the 5.56 out of a .223 barrel.

Lower is put together. Only waiting on the buffer tube plate, spring, and buffer. Some parts of the plastic lower seem too tight, specifically the bolt catch. Doesn't seem like its going to work (by that I mean it seems like its going to catch every shot) until I get it loosened up. Overall, I'd easily recommend a plastic lower, but won't know for sure until I shoot it. Feels good, though.

We'll see. Can't test it until I get the last three parts, which will hopefully be here by Wednesday. What better way to celebrate July 4th than with a homemade AR? Seriously, that's pretty damn American.

EP Lowers. I honestly don't think I would've been able to do a metal one, and have it come out anywhere near to passable.

No, I didn't wait. The neighbor is still waiting, but I said eff that. Used the Dremel, a Forstner bit, and a 1/4" chisel. I'll take some pics later- hopefully my remaining parts come today.

Is there much tolerance you have to hold or just Hal enough out until it fits?

This one was pre-milled, and then back filled with a different color plastic. All I had to do was "remove" the lighter colored filler, and be careful not to drill through the bottom. A metal one is a whole 'nother deal, and one I don't think I'd like to try. The hole for the trigger you just have to test fit a lot, since there's no pattern for it.

With the plastic lower, I did have to "fine tune" some stuff, since its obviously not as precise as metal. I had to grind the selector switch a bit, to widen the firing "permission" flat spot. The trigger had about a millimeter of play, which prevented it from firing about half the time. I removed about 3mm from the switch itself, which cleared the problem up right away. The mag well was extremely tight, so I took sandpaper and a file to it, which helped a ton. I may remove even more, but everything I've read says to give them a while to break in. And I still need to work on the bolt catch (I think). It just doesn't look like its sitting quite right, but it may be. I need the buffer spring so I can test it and see if it functions as its supposed to.

Overall, it was pretty damn fun.

The kids learned some new words last night when I moved the selector to "semi", pulled the trigger and, nothing happened. They may have learned enough new words to get them through the next 22 years.

So far 95% on the kit, and 5% on the lower. Maybe a little more. I really need that buffer spring though, so I can check the bolt catch. That will be a supreme goat fuck if it doesn't function right, since there's no way to get the pin out once it's in on this particular lower. Luckily, it's plastic, and I'm not afraid to make some shit up as I go.

Shockingly low, believe it or not. I've had more than one doctor tell me that I may need to do something about that someday. So I stopped going to doctors. I just allow myself to be aggravated, and I think that keeps my blood pressure up where it needs to be
