This is awesome, keep the reports coming. Not a turkey hunter, and my marriage won't allow for me to become one in addition to a duck nut, but love hearing the tales of trying to outsmart these birds.

Setting the woods on fire where they live is not a tactic I would have thought to be a fruitful one.

...and last but not least, prepping for the little guy arriving in October. He’s due the 31st but my fingers are crossed for a week or two early so I can slip out to the lease for a couple days for the opener.

Experience taught me that aiming for the base of the wattle will help with that first issue, but I've no help at all for the second. Just well wishes for all involved.

Might think about buying a nice new shotgun in September (for junior or course).
You'll have about 15 years to break it in properly.

Was gently trying to point out that the instant my wife made a baby we got so broke that a boat or new fancy shotgun was not happening. Any time I had a little extra cash she sniffed it out and suddenly created this extreme need situation. For twenty years!

She tries the same tactics with the grand-kids now. I had a little break in between my daughter getting married and her first son to get my duck-hunting shit together. Up until that time I was walking and carrying my decoys and everything. Rough.
Maybe it's different for everyone else but I suspect what I just posted is true on some level for us all. Sorry. Hope I'm wrong.
