Anyone ever hatched out wax worms?

I just started going through my ice fishing stuff and there was a little puck of wax worms in the bottom from 3 weeks ago. I pick it up and look at it and its full of flies. Any one ever had this happen? Couldn't have hatched out too long long ago, most are still alive.

I've left a lot of wax worms out for long periods of time and never seen this.

Must have had just the right conditions for them to hatch...kinda cool.

Edit. I think wax worms turn into bees.

Must have been spikes.

I have a faint remembrance of this happening. Nuff daddy got it, you gave them the proper temp for long enough along with some other things by chance. Congrats bro! Seriously!

I found out there are supposed to radiate all bait like that before selling it to prevent the spread of invasives. These must have been some mutant grubs or something.

what does radiation do? fry repro organs or keep the life cycle from reaching adulthood?

My understanding is it allegedly keeps them from pupating or whatever the hell word it is. Since those worms might come from different parts of the country they don't want non native geneotypes on the loose, messing shit up for the established bugs.

I think I bought black market grubs.

Were they flies or moths? Wax worms will turn into some sort of moth, and spikes are your garbage variety maggot that will turn into a garbage eating fly.

Pa said he had something years ago that turned into bees. Bee larve, if I had to guess.

More of a fishing expert. Grubs fall under that category from time to time.

The spike thing is easy to figure out if you've ever looked in a hot wet garbage filled with dead shit in the summer.

This happened in a cool, dry, plastic container in Febuary. The only dead shit in there was saw dust.

Blow flies like hot garbage, cold garbage and mild garbage. Sometimes I look around and dont even realize Im in a garbage bag until the oxygen gets low and I start punching hard enough to let light in.

You should look into a thicker mil, or try out ForceFlex
